An excerpt from this John Lurie feature:
A year and a half ago, however, at the age of fifty-six, Lurie disappeared. What happened first was that Lurie was stricken with a mysterious disease that confined him to his SoHo apartment for six years. Then, in 2008, he and his closest friend, a younger artist named John Perry, had an explosive rupture, and Lurie went into hiding in the belief that Perry intended to kill him. This was a reasonable point of view, as Perry was stalking him. In October, Lurie began living incognito in a rented house in Palm Springs, California.
Which reminds me that I need to rewatch the "Fishing with John" series from 1991...

Lurie is all kind of fucked up over this. I've spoken to him several times since he's left the city and he's miserable.
"Fishing With John"! What an awesome show. Can't get that theme song outta my head!
I loved Fishing With John and have yearned for more episodes.
