Daily News brings further shame to the East Village

I missed this feature in the Daily News ... Thanks (maybe!) to EV Grieve reader Crazy Eddie for passing along the links — complete with an apology.

As you can see, we're No. 2 for singles! Woo!

And now, the lead to the section on the East Village:

Somehow this neighborhood once known for sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll keeps getting better. If this place were a rock band, in the 1990s it would have been a raucous merging of the Sex Pistols meets the Rolling Stones. Today, it’s more mellow indie rock meets John Mayer.

And!

One person scored a $1,900 one-bedroom on a fourth-floor walk-up. About $3,000 will get you a small two-bedroom. The farther east one goes, towards Avenue C and D, the less one pays, but the closer one gets to housing projects and traditional, immigrant areas known for their local flavor.

Parts of this area gets gritty, but public gardens fill the empty lots, some with Roman amphitheatres, others with weeping willow trees and small ponds filled with gold fish.

...woah. I don't even know where to start. This article is utterly terrifying.

i sent you a link to another article about the most popular places to live in Manhattan and East Village was top 5, the darker the the neighborhood the map the more popular and we were as dark blue as could be!

@Lindsay

Agreed. Of all the dumb shit in this write up, the Stones-Sex Pistols-90s line was the most unintentionally hilarious.

Just what we needed- applause for the glut of bars and restaurants. And- don't see how the roving shouting screaming groups Wednesday through Saturday night qualify as John Mayer types.

Are they mentioning John Mayer like it's a good thing?

EV Grieve said...

@James

Yes. That's how I read it.

With the exception of the first paragraph, the article is all rather true, guys...not sure what you're all riled up about.

i'm surprised they don't mention Dockers pants.

umm, hate to break it to you guys but this article is pretty true. It may not define YOU, but sorry it's not always about YOU.

What's so good about Hunter's Point?

I'm a transplant and pay 2K for a 2BR with a roof deck and balcony! The people in that article are dumb.

Anonymous 4:04 probably some editor of the paper. Or author of the article! LOL!

"keeps getting better" - for who, exactly? The boring, drunken weasels who now populate the place to such a great extent?

"the closer one gets to housing projects and traditional, immigrant areas known for their local flavor" - OhmiGOD! There's - there's - housing projects! And - gasp! - immigrants! Quick, let's go back to Avenue A and get some cupcakes!

Just such fucking losers, as is everyone who defends 'em. Yeah that means all of you Anonymousi out there who cast aspersions on those of us who love the old EV yet don't have the brass ones to give your names. Screw you.

Leaving only a first name on a post...especially one as common as that, is pretty much the same as leaving a post under the name "Anonymous".

i think "immigrant areas known for their local flavor" says it all.

so, people come here for the local flavor and that reduces the rent?

it's like they come here for the "history" and live in buildings that have destroyed that history.

at one time everyone in this country was an immigrant. oops, i forgot, that's history.

Anonymous @ 11:05pm on Feb 6, so far there are 10 Anonymous commenters and only one Lisa for this post. I disagree. It's not the same thing. If it were, you'd post your name, but clearly you have your reasons for not doing so.

Thank you, Claribel!

I live in between C&D and pay $2000 for an immaculately renovated and large apartment in a walk up building. I love love love my apartment but I hate my rent-controlled neighbors that think they run shit just because they've been here for the past twenty goddamn years, and yeah, the projects are pretty loud and annoying. If it wasn't for the entertainment factor of criminals dodging arrests and crackhead fights, I'd probably move tomorrow.
