A little love for Odessa

Odessa on Avenue A got a little love in the Post yesterday ... in the weekly "My New York" feature. Actor Paul Dano (best known for "There Will Be Blood" and "Little Miss Sunshine") singled out Odessa as well as Blue & Gold and Big Bar as some of his favorite places...

And we'll do the same... we're fans of the Odessa, particularly drinks at the old Cafe... seen here in two photos by Michael Sean Edwards...

Nice to see the Odessa love and a shout out for the Big Bar!

I wish they had kept that central partition, though, from back before it was a bar at all. I remember sitting in there once, this must've been '89, and in the one window booth to the left were a bunch of uniformed 9th precinct guys and in the other were a bunch of old Hasidim drinking tea. It looked like a New Yorker cover...

Odessa Cafe and Odessa are two places we shouldn't mind trumpeting from the mountaintops: I'm usually the only person in either when I'm there, and I use the good deodorant.

In fact, I'm thinking a cash-mob at the original Odessa one Tuesday night here in March would be something to organize with EVG/Jeremiah. We'll pack 'em in!

The bartender has lived in the 'hood for 40 years!

And it's all thanks to the original http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odessa
The best city in the world :) ...well probably in the running with NYC.

@Shawn

Amazing that more people don't go to the Cafe... a great bar... especially at a time when we're losing our great old bars like the Holiday...

had a wonderful brunch there with a large group after the memorial service at tompkins temperance fountain on sunday.
they just put in new the stone tiles.
was so grateful to still have such a civilized, old-school, simple and comforting place to go to after.
long live odessa.
