[Updated] Big Reveal Week continues: Here's 100 Third Ave.

Earlier this week, we saw the new building at the long-dormant 219 First Ave. ... Yesterday, workers removed the netting/scaffolding here at 100 Third Ave., which had been in various stages of arrested development through the years...

Eventually (probably), the ground-floor level will be the new home of Nevada Smith's, which is moving up the Avenue...

Updated 10:06 a.m.

Here's Curbed's take on the new building: "a sleek, dare we say featureless, facade with all the clean-scrubbed character of a 19-year-old fresh off the bus and ready to make it big in New York."

And here's how the building looked in November 2009...

There's a lot of history at 100 Third Ave., which we'll discuss later.

Meanwhile, down the Avenue, the cycle of building life continues... as prep work for the demolition of 74-76 Third Ave., the former home to Nevada Smith's, winds down...

This one doesn't fit AT ALL. Who even proposed putting this up. It's disgusting looking.

I am almost always on the other side of this debate when it comes to new buildings. I think every city / neighborhood / block goes through changes and clutching on to remnants of the past simply stagnates progress.

That being said .. this building is awful and a complete eyesore. Not only does it not fit in the "East Village Aesthetic", its just down right ugly. Too bad.

I wonder if the fact that the steelwork and concrete floors sat exposed for at least two years will be disclosed to whomever pays $1 million plus for the apartments. I'm sure that would *never* lead to damp or structural problems in the future.

Also agree that it's an eyesore - normally I like mixed blocks and some modern design mixed in with the old - but this looks like a refrigerator or some other appliance. If it had stopped at the 4th floor, it would have been OK because the windows echo the scale and proportions of the rest of the block. But no, the greedy owner had to shove another 3 floors on there and abandon any pretense of fitting in. Almost looks like an architect designed the lower half and then the developer just had his contractor add another 3 floors with no design for the hell of it

When are they going to tip it over into the dumpster? That's the plan, right?

Why would you move in there in the first place when you have a rowdy soccer bar underneath.

@glamma, that was amazing.

And it is an ugly piece of crap.
