Yeah I was there. They made mention of the late great Gil Scott Heron. Well let me tell you something. Gill Scott Heron wouldn't play Sun City and he certainly wouldn't stand on a stage that is sponsored by Icon Realty, Tower Brokerage, Jakobson Properties, Baumrind & Baumrind and Vickers Realty.

DO NOT support anyone affiliated with this so-called festival. They ARE PARASITES sucking the blood out of what's left of the neighborhood. DO NOT SUPPORT ANY OF THESE PEOPLE OR SPONSORS

I guess the revolution will be televised, sponsored by the folks Cookiepuss mentioned.

To the festival haters, I'd like to submit the following:

From the HOWL EMERGENCY LIFE PROJECT page on the howlfestival.com webiste

The Howl Emergency Life Project (H.E.L.P.)

was created to provide emergency financial assistance and social service support to artists who have participated in the annual Howl Festival or who make their careers in New York City's East Village and Lower East Side arts community and whose work challenges the traditional boundaries of dance, theatre, music, multimedia and the spoken word.

Services include counseling and referrals for personal, family or work-related problems. Linkage to community resources for such needs as medical care, legal services, public benefits or elder care. Workshops are offered on a variety of topics and include: finding affordable housing, financial education as well as health insurance options.

Financial assistance is available for rent, utilities, mental health and medical care as well as other basic living expenses. Grants are approved on a case-by-case basis based on need.

The fund has already helped EV artists, performers, etc. from many generations, and we will continue to. More info at:

These sponsors are the ones who have destroyed the neighborhood. Any of the funding going to H.E.L.P. is small in comparison to the gentrification and demise of the neighborhood which continues every day because of the landlordlords, developers and realtors. If Ben Shaoul or George Bush spnnsored HOWL are you still going to look the other way? The H.E.L.P. project is not autonimous, if you were you would split and do your own thing and get your funding from different sources. This is baloney.

I agree with the HOWL haters even though I am not from the East Village and am fighting to stop development by NYU/Bloomberg in other parts of the Village.

The corporate sponsors write-off the cost of their support as the cheapest imaginable way to advertise and have great PR. It's part of a long term strategy.

Do not cooperate with them or be fooled. The very groups HOWL is trying to protect, will be ruthlessly treated by such sponsors, when the time comes.
