[Updated] Cab ends up on sidewalk outside Horus Café on Avenue A and East 10th Street

A reader sent along this photo from Avenue A at East 10th Street... we do not have any information on what happened or if there were any injuries... another reader thought it happened around 10:15 a.m.

Since we are ridding ourselves of parking here in the New York City area it may also be time to rid ourselves of cabs and the destruction brought by them on many levels

To be fair, that's a pretty sketchy intersection: East 10th Street suddenly becomes a two-way rather than a one-way street as you cross Avenue A.

I imagine a cab barreling down East 10th and then crossing the intersection in the wrong "lane", right into oncoming traffic. An avoidance maneuver could possibly find the cab veering up onto the sidewalk.

we missed it by about 15 minutes. is it wrong to wish it had gone through the restaurant itself? we still miss the photography place. also face, olympia dukakis used to live in the apartment right above.

This is why I look both ways 3-4 times before crossing. Even on the one-ways. Trust nothing to nobody. Never know when a vehicle is going to lose control. These eastern/middle eastern drivers are fuckin maniacs. They step on the gas just to get to a red light faster. Also inexplicably they drive with both feet--it makes no sense to accelerate and brake at the same time, but so many of these drivers do it. WTF.

I would love a cab to end up at that 7-11.

"They step on the gas just to get to a red light faster."
This makes me insane; people who "accelerate" to a red light.

Brings new meaning to "door to door service".

A propos anonymous "Also inexplicably they drive with both feet--it makes no sense to accelerate and brake at the same time, but so many of these drivers do it" The writer misconstrues the 2 foot technique of driving a yellow taxi. I drove, accident free, for a period of several years using left for the brakes and right for gas. I currently drive a shift but if in an automatic I do use both feet. I discovered after my first 12 hour shift in a yellow taxi that my right knee was seriously sore from the constant braking in city traffic. I immediately began using the left for the brake and never looked back. I notice here a general lack of sympathy for cab drivers. For a driver, not an owner, the system that they work within bears the closest resemblance to the railroad workers in the 19th century. You do know that they have to pay for the cab rental and gas before they make the first dollar? That runs to probably $160. You do the math.

I'm not sure what cab drivers' working class status (like most of us) has to do with their piss poor driving.

Anonymous, I described a situation that is not a simple case of being working class. As I said before they pay everyday about $160 before they make a penny. I don't know of another job that makes these demands and pressures. Also because their vehicles are bright yellow they are obviously readily recognizable and easily lumped together. There's no question that there are some truly bad taxi drivers but to lump them all together is truly absurd and uninformed. It's actually dangerously close to racial profiling There are clearly a lot of shitty drivers out there so why pick on taxi drivers.

Looks like the "visit" at Cosmo's Launderama on 1st Ave some year's ago. Same shitty driver maybe?
