This bird just crashed into Benny's Burritos and died

This bird just nose bombed into Benny's Burritos on Avenue A at East Sixth ... and, sadly, died. The photo is via EVG FB friend Drew Rabbitclub... We don't know too much about birds... Rather an unusual-looking one. Anyone know what kind of bird this is? (Aside from a dead bird, yes.)

@ Drew

I'm sorry — you can't say "Woodcock" on this site.

Oh. Right... just looked that up... Mystery solved. Poor thing.

I always knew I'd make the news with my woodcock.

Zing. Sorry. RIP

They get distracted while migrating( not city birds ) and end up flying into buildings in the city. I saw a similar thing happen outside washington square park.

Yes, a Woodcock. We have seen this
breed of bird in Thompkin Sq.Park
about a year ago. Always a thrill seeing
as these are a pretty rare bird in a City.

Life come, life goes.

Seriously bird, the food at Benny's is not much to write home about - no need to freak out and crash through the window to get in...

Nice bird. I hope it got a proper disposal instead of becoming one with the asphalt like a common pigeon.

Birds fly into windows in the country too. That's why people sometimes put stickers on their big windows. But even with that precaution, I've witnessed birds dying this way. In Montana, not near any city.
