Summer ruined before summer even starts

[What could have been]

NO CICADAS.

That's right. As the Daily Intelligencer put it in a headline today:

The Cicada Invasion of New York City Has Been Canceled

Boo!

We were counting on swarms of cicadas to peacefully emerge in Tompkins Square Park.

We were counting on posting hundreds of cicada posts. Hundreds.

Now what are we supposed to write about?

Updated 11:30:

Maybe it will be the Summer of Bees again?

There is a child out there named Cicada Moskowitz! (http://forward.com/articles/128802/where-god-meets-green/) We could all write about her!

Or yes, I suppose the farshtunkiner bikes.

Oh, TRUE! I have really slacked off on that beat.

You don't have to write about anything, you know, as long as there are arrows.

--> You've been slacking off those, too.

Wow. Slacking on DBGB sidewalk cafe coverage... arrows. [Weeping]

FYI. This photo shows a murmuration of Starlings.
If they were Cicadas and Cicadas were that large we could all eat well tonight?

Its very sad. The cicadas go into their 17 year slumber, meanwhile the human cancer builds roads and parking lots and leech fields and malls and the cicada wakes up and can't go anywhere.

Postponed..delayed..cancelled..hmmmm

I did see that! I linked to it in the post.

@EV Arrow - You made Grieve cry. You are a bad arrow. You can just go stick it.

Was up at Storm King Sculpture Gardens this weekend just after they hit. Wings and carcasses everywhere.
