Chico creates a mural in memory of Robin Williams on East 13th Street

Longtime LES graffiti artist Antonio "Chico" Garcia finished this up yesterday at B Cup Café on East 13th Street and Avenue B.

And here's a shot of the finished mural last night at 9:30 via EVG Facebook friend Kathleen O'Regan...

  1. "Keep Smiling" and yet he paints him thin-lipped and grim-looking instead of with a huge, warm grin? Okey-dokey!

  2. He looks more like a young Walter Matthau.

  3. It's a thoughtful tribute. Ease up on the snarky comments.

  5. I like Chico's work, it is done in his own distinctive style, and this actually was one of Robin Williams' most common expressions when you see him in photos. Nice job Chico, keep up the great work.

  6. Williams did have very thin lips (Chico got that right). The eyes though; ehhhh.. close, but could use a little work.
    Still; appreciate the sentiment.

  7. Aren't there more noteworthy locals who deserve this ? Do this for someone who's improved the area. Not some druggie Hollywood 1% type who offed himself. Get some priorities stop with the mindless celebrity worship. Only in the new EV. Did the bros approve this? How about a mural protesting our nypd killers? Too political for the sanitized whitewashed suburbanied EV. Somewhere Doomberg is smiling

  9. I remember, some years ago, coming home to see a Chico going up on my building on e 12th Street. I made a disparaging remark, not having seen the man himself up on a ladder working. He offered to let me try it and see if I could do any better. I was properly chagrined.

  11. Oh Chico. I love that you make these - and in tribute to residents in the neighborhood, these murals are filled with heart and honor and I appreciate them so much, but for the famous I can't bear to see them. It’s not your fault, it's almost impossible to represent in spray-paint a portrait of the artists we emotionally connect with in photos, film and video. You are our neighborhood mural artist and I respect you and look forward to murals of neighbors who have passed or are our local heroes, scenes of kids and parrots taking a milk carton out of a corner trash can but the portraits are too hard. I’m sorry Chico.
