La Lucha space for rent on Avenue A

The 6-year-old La Lucha quickly shut down after service last Wednesday night, as we first reported.

And just like that the for rent sign from landlord Steve Croman's 9300 Realty arrived on the front window of the taco shop at 147 Avenue A between East Ninth Street and East 10th Street. (The listing isn't online just yet.)

As for La Lucha, the proprietors left this message on their Facebook page:

New location coming soon. Due to the outrageous cost of operating in the village we decided it's best to relocate. In the mean time catch our Taco truck on Franklin Ave in Bedford, BK.

My friend and I finally decided to give this place a try, and we met here on Saturday night only to find it was gone.

can't really blame them. hope the landlord gets to enjoy a nice long period of no rental income.

I would go here from time to time. Loved everything about it but the prices were as high as mercadito and i thought that was a bit better quality and ambience. That's gone now too though sigh. Don't worry I am not a snob I go to zaragozo 7x for every 1 mercadito or la lucha and love it. Sad these good taco and beer joints close. Yet a little more south you have Fonda, mayauhuel, and black ant sorta crushing it but are so cheesey and expensive. Go figure.

Croman. I just don't understand why you want to do business/life this way.

Are we down to like five or six landlords in the entire city? Croman, ICON, Tower, Shaoul, Kushner; anyone I'm forgetting?
