Rose&Basil bringing truffles, breakfast jars and coffee to 7th Street

We noticed the other day that the for rent sign is down at 104 E. Seventh St. between Avenue A and First Avenue... looks like some food service is on the way...

And just like that the signage arrived for Rose&Basil ...

Here's a description of what's in store:

Rose&Basil offers a variety of products such as exquisite Chocolate Truffles, all-you-need in a Breakfast Jar and a carefully selected variety [of] coffee. All our products are 100% gluten free, organic and have no added sugars...

Owner Ioana Holt and her friend Will Wang plan to open the shop on July 24.

So is a Breakfast Jar simply an acai bowl with a lid?

What are you really offering? Breakfast truffles in a jar? Or is there more that we are missing?

I think breakfast jars are one of those Pinterest-beloved thingamojiggies like "overnight oats" (usually with some sort of acai, h/t Gojira) or Mason-jar salad or the dreaded chia seed pudding ... I'm a health nut who finally had to stop the insanity and admit that chia seed pudding is the f'in worst.

food im jars are the new flavor of the month.
another way to sound ecological, trendy, any buzz word you want to include .... and to charge more.

first it was drinks, then foods in mason jars.

then this funding request: A Restaurant That Only Serves Its Food In Jars Is Opening Near NYU - and specially made jars with fancy tote bags.

now this, aren't we lucky.

The truffles look delicious (as I'm sure they are) and the presentation is very appealing and the owner is privileged young woman with money to burn, OBVI.

And now for the triggering words, "Ioana is inspired by her mother and hopes to be able to give a little back for all the wonders she has given her. She loves to bake, believes in the value of hard work and aspires to be someone worth remembering. Along with her interests in economics and entrepreneurship she strives to be the next Donald Trump, J.K. Rowling, or at least meet them along the way."

J.K. Rowling? That Satanic witch? Puh-leeeeease.

"Foods in mason jars" isn't exactly new; I used to get a great "cake in a jar" at 'snice a great vegetarian/vegan place that took over the space of Garber's hardware, (which still exists, over on Greenwich street) the oldest hardware store in the city.

The Garber family still owns—and lives in—the building where 'snice was—and the hardware store once was. The retail space is now—drum roll, please—a nail salon.
