He said that this location is a new profit sharing store, the 4th in NYC , where some of the profits of those stores will go to the city of New York. NYC can then put that money toward schools and creating jobs. Starbucks has 20 profit sharing stores and more to come.Dannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694390946037511355.post-52139907140622274042011-12-09T09:22:33.283-05:002011-12-09T09:22:33.283-05:00Anonymous @ 7:59 AM said...

If we're going to have tourists, I'd rather they at least spent their money at local shops and got at least some idea of what it means to live in the East Village. Instead, they'll go straight for the Starbucks in the same way that they bee-line for the Olive Garden or Red Lobster in Times Square. Now that the EV has become a neighborhood with higher rents only the larger chains or some very successful specialty shop can afford to pay the rents. Those who love Bean will still be able to have their coffee and drink it too when they open their new space on Second Avenue and 3rd Street soon. Those who like Starbucks will have their haven as well. What's the problem? If you want to feel angry...aim your anger at the landlords who charge higher and higher commercial rents forcing out smaller shop owners who have served the EV since before you were born.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694390946037511355.post-53600674275552163862011-12-08T07:59:50.202-05:002011-12-08T07:59:50.202-05:00Starbucks has a business model that has worked bec...Starbucks has a business model that has worked because it's based on addicting young people to caffeine and sugar. I'd read so much about this visionary, employee-centric business, with superb coffee too boot, that I was delighted to find it at the airport.

It was such a novelty, the boutique coffee shop.

Now it is the McDonald's of coffee shops, albeit with higher quality and price, but a predictable chain nonetheless.

Perhaps Starbucks should just become the I-95 coffee pit stop and leave our local 'hoods alone.VH McKenziehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15758245677856344651noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694390946037511355.post-18838776733225741872011-12-07T19:28:49.531-05:002011-12-07T19:28:49.531-05:00The Bean is not out of business! This is why places like Love Saves The Day, Wowsville, Finyl Vinyl, to name a few, have been replaced by Subway restaurants, Starbucks and banks.
