I lived on E. 9th between B and C from February 1978 to February 1982. The LES was exciting and magical to me and every day felt full of surprises and adventure. I met people I never would have met anywhere else and everyone seemed to be pursuing dreams, even the junkies in Tompkins Square Park who offered to "off" someone who was hassling me one day. mstixhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09086818303147024271noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694390946037511355.post-84538274801420736512012-06-28T23:52:18.657-04:002012-06-28T23:52:18.657-04:00my apt was on 2nd & 5st. 88 2nd ave- corner bu...my apt was on 2nd & 5st. 88 2nd ave- corner building. fifth floor back. rent controlled @ $60. per month. this was august 1968. all polish people.laurahttp://laurarubinphotography.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694390946037511355.post-12319047956247893192012-06-27T23:42:39.426-04:002012-06-27T23:42:39.426-04:00OMG! In fact, the building at center right is the VERY building that I first viewed. The apt. was on the top floor, and the hallway was graffiti from top to bottom. The apartment stank of wet cement upon entering and the windows at the far end had no glass in them. The stove leaned to the left and the refrigerator leaned to the right and there was a huge painting of Captain America painted on one of the walls. The super saw the look on my face and said "we'll throw in the paint"... yeah right! I ended up later that day at 30 Avenue B and got my first apartment for $250!Ron Z.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694390946037511355.post-10441304958902897732012-06-27T15:17:53.179-04:002012-06-27T15:17:53.179-04:00Great interview and the photos are wonderful.
