The Adele joins The Robyn in pop star-friendly East Village corridor

[EVG file photo from April]

Well, it turns out that Alphabet Plaza, the 12-story mixed-used apartment building going up at East Houston and Avenue D, is actually going by a different name now. (Early reports about the development referred to it as Alphabet Plaza.)

Yesterday, workers dropped a banner on the side of the building. Say hello to The Adele!

The banner lists a website, though at this point, it's just a placeholder … noting that "luxury rentals" will be coming this summer. There isn't any pricing yet.

And this appears to be The Adele's slogan:

"In a city where everyone is always going somewhere, you’ll already be there."

While wrapping your head around that, here are some of the building's previously reported amenities, such as a 24-hour doorman, valet services (laundry drop-off and pick-up), fitness center, residents lounge, landscaped roof decks (where you can watch the Skyfall?) and bike storage. In total, there will be 135 units here, 30 of them affordable.

The homage to a successful pop singer can't be ignored. So now we have The Adele, named maybe for the English singer-songwriter, joining another neighboring new building The Robyn, named maybe for the Swedish pop star, at 316 E. Third St. Maybe they'll be a push for The Madonna for old time's sake one of these days?

Here are details on applying for one of the 30 affordable units in Alphabet Plaza

[Via Curbed]

This past year, we've been keeping tabs on Alphabet Plaza, the 12-story mixed-used apartment building going up at East Houston and Avenue D.

In total, the building will include 135 apartments — with 30 of them designated as affordable units. Yesterday, The Lo-Down reported that the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development has shared information about the upcoming lottery for those units.

Per The Lo-Down:

Under NYC’s affordable housing program, studios will rent for $847; one bedrooms are priced at $909; 2-bedroom units are $1101. Applicants need to meet income requirements (annual household earnings ranging from $30,000 to nearly $60,000 for the largest units). Residents of Community District 3 (including the Lower East Side and Chinatown) will be given preference for the apartments.

Go here to find details about how to apply. Feb. 18 is the deadline.

The building amenities include 24-hour doorman, valet services (laundry drop-off and pick-up), fitness center, residents lounge, landscaped roof decks with BBQ area and bike storage.

Here then, Alphabet Plaza

[Via Curbed]

When we last looked at Alphabet Plaza, the 12-floor building on Avenue D and East Houston was still covered in construction netting. (For the record: We took the photos on Nov. 29 and posted them on Tuesday. A neighbor said that the construction gear came down on Monday. All this will be on the midterm.)

Our friends at Curbed yesterday got a look at a fresh rendering (above!) … and more details on amenities… such as! "a doorman, gym, rooftop terrace, bike storage, and a tenant recreation room, plus a washer/dryer and 'built-in bluetooth speakers' in every unit."

Model units (there will be 135 units in total) should be ready in early 2014, per the broker. Apartments were previously reported to be in the $2,500 to $3,600 range.

Taking in Alphabet Plaza on East Houston

Crews showed up shortly after Hurricane Sandy last fall to start work on Alphabet Plaza, a 12-story mixed-used apartment building for East Houston and Avenue D. According to the DOB, the building will be 108,953 total square feet, with 9,640 set aside for retail.

We've watched it grow these past 13 months... Here are some photos 13 months later... looks like the crews have made it to the top...

Per The Real Deal back in January 2012: "The building, which will include some affordable units as part of the 80/20 program, will have a doorman, rooftop terrace, gym and outdoor space."

Apartments were reported to be in the $2,500 to $3,600 range.

Alphabet Plaza's backside is getting bigger

[April]

We haven't checked in on the backside of Alphabet Plaza since late June. The 12-story mixed-used apartment building at East Houston and East Second Street/Avenue D continues to inch skyward as this photo from EVG reader Ray shows...

Difficult to tell what floor the workers have reached... but a slightly educated guess is 9-10.

We'll be back in a couple of weeks with photos of people moving in...

Alphabetical order on Avenue D and East Houston

In recent weeks, EVG reader Ray has shared some backside photos of the progress at the incoming Alphabet Plaza, the 12-story mixed-used apartment building at East Houston and East Second Street/Avenue D.

From a different angle on the corner, you can see just how massive the thing is ... with 4-5 floors to go...

This is the corner in July 2008 ...

Halfway home at Alphabet Plaza

A milestone, of sorts, to note on the incoming Alphabet Plaza, the 12-story mixed-used apartment building at East Houston and East Second Street/Avenue D ... As far as we can tell from the picture by EVG reader Ray, it appears the building is now at the 6th floor mark and climbing... on its way to...

Alphabet Plaza starts to apply sun block

Just about a month ago, the incoming Alphabet Plaza, the 12-story mixed-used apartment building at East Houston and East Second Street/Avenue D, made its first appearance above ground.

Here, EVG reader Ray shares a different perspective... the first shot is about the same time one month ago..

... and now as of yesterday...

As you can see, residents living in 11-13 Avenue D are slowly losing their southern views.

The Real Deal had a rendering of the new building back in November...

As The Real Deal first reported:

The owner is Kahen Properties, which purchased six lots on the corner of Avenue D and East 2nd Street for $21 million in December [2011] ... Kahen is planning to spend another $30 million on the project, where apartments will rent in the $2,500 to $3,600 range. The building will also include some affordable units, along with a rooftop terrace, gym and doorman.

Easy as...: Alphabet Plaza makes first appearance above ground

Work continues here at East Houston and East Second Street/Avenue D... future home of a 12-story mixed-used apartment building called Alphabet Plaza ... the new structure has made its first appearance above ground, as these photos from EVG Facebook friend Edward Arrocha show...

Still waiting to see new renderings... as well as learning what franchises will be leasing the retail space (smart money is on Walgreens).

Alphabet Plaza ready to rise on Avenue D

Despite the aftermath of the Sandy ... crews arrived last week to work on the formerly empty lot on East Houston and Avenue D...

In October, the city OK'd plans to erect a 12-story mixed-used apartment building for this space. According to the DOB, the building will be 108,953 total square feet, with 9,640 set aside for retail.

Per documents, Jerry Kahen of Alphabet Plaza LLC is listed as the managing partner. Avinash K. Malhotra Architects is the architect of record. The firm's projects include the W Downtown and 2 Gold Street.

This past January, The Real Deal reported that a Queens property owner plucked down $21 million for a 130,000-square-foot development site at Avenue D and East Second Street.

Kahen Properties bought six lots at 5-9 Avenue D and 306-310 East Second Street for a luxury apartment building featuring apartments in the $2,500 to $3,600 range.
