Jillery is moving to 7th and B

Jillery, the jewelry and home accessories shop, is moving from its current home on East 10th Street to the corner of East Seventh Street and Avenue B, most recently home to Amaran.

Artist Jill Fagin launched her business in 1987. (Read more about that here.)

We originally reported that a yoga studio was taking over the space on Seventh and B, though that business was just one of the possibilities for the corner.

As for Jillery signing a lease here, Anna Pastoressa, president of the board of directors of the co-op at 184 E. Seventh St., told us the following:

Our co-op is very proud to have rejected chain stores, banks, bars and loud food establishments. We are proud to have chosen a local business like Jillery who has been in the neighborhood for many years and we wish Jillery great success in our corner.

After some cosmetic renovation on the space, Jillery is eyeing an end-of-August opening.

Reader report: Yoga studio for 7th and B

Amaran, the imported home goods store, closed on Avenue B at East Seventh Street back in February. Reliable sources on the block have told us that a yoga studio will be taking over the space... No other details at the moment... Except that someone recently covered the interior windows...

The week in the life of some plywood on Avenue B and East 7th Street

[Via Robert Miner]

Last Tuesday, the above plywood arrived on the corner of Avenue B and East Seventh Street ... outside Amaran, the home-goods store that is closing soon ...

Work permits pointed to something about: "ENCLOSE A SMALL PORTION OF THE EXTERIOR WALL."

By Thursday, there was a partial stop work order. "THE SIDEWALK SHED ALLOWS 19 INCHES OF PASSAGE. IT WRAPS AROUND THE BUILDING AND WAS TO ONLY BE ON 7 ST. ONE INCH SCREW ARE STICKING OUT OF THE PLYWOOD."

OK. On Friday, workers arrived to move the plywood off the sidewalk...

Now, perhaps, all is well.

As for Amaran, they have the misfortune of looking as if they're already closed. The store's last day isn't until Jan. 27, per the homemade signs on the plywood...
