Asian Taste closing in on a reopening

Photo Wednesday and reporting by Stacie Joy

Asian Taste is getting closer to returning after being sidelined for the past six months on the NW corner of Avenue B and Third Street.

During an inspection of 199 E. Third St. in late September, Con Ed found multiple leaks and shut off the gas to the entire Steve Croman-owned building, including the businesses.

Management tells me they are just waiting for the proper approvals (unfortunately, there is no timeline on this), and they will be back serving their welcomed and reasonably priced quick-serve Chinese cuisine.

Tenants and businesses are now without gas at 199 E. 3rd St.

Photos and reporting by Stacie Joy

On Thursday, Con Ed inspected 199 E. Third St., the building on the NW corner at Avenue B.

The posted notice states that workers found multiple leaks and shut off the gas to the entire building.

Unfortunately, as we've seen, these situations take a while to resolve. So, for now, residential tenants of this Steve Croman-owned building will need to use hot plates to cook and get used to cold showers.

Meanwhile, Asian Taste on the corner will be closed for the foreseeable future...
Sadly, this also means that Luigi Iasilli will experience a delay in launching his new project, Potenza Centrale, in the same building.

Asian Taste is back open

Asian Taste reopened yesterday on the northwest corner of Avenue B and Third Street ... providing another quick-serve and inexpensive Chinese food option. (Fei Ma returned to service back on Friday on Avenue A.)

As the interior photo by Stacie Joy shows, management has added a clear protective shield at the front counter to add a barrier between workers and customers.

They are open for pickup/takeout from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily.

Asian Taste opens on 3rd and B

Tasty Asian debuted yesterday on the northwest corner of Avenue B and Third Street...

An EVG reader shared these photos... the reader also confirmed that the quick-serve restaurant is from the same family who ran the previous establishment here — China Wok, which closed in early December after an alleged rent increase.

There's an expanded selection of items at similarly reasonable prices as China Wok, per the reader.

Meanwhile, in another stunning noteworthy development, EVG regular Salim points out that the legendary exhaust fan on the Third Street side is gone...

The Asian Taste awning has arrived on 3rd and B; China Wok redux?

On Saturday, EVG regular Salim reported that workers put in place the new awning for Asian Taste (hello Choc font!), coming soon to the space on the northwest corner of Avenue B and Third Street.

There is an unconfirmed reader report that Asian Taste is from the same family who ran the previous establishment here, the quick-serve China Wok that closed in early December. (A reader also spotted one of the former China Wok cooks helping with the sign.)

Upon its closure in December, there were rumors that the business was Cromanated via landlord Steve Croman. The for-rent sign arrived in mid-December.

Whatever the case, the family felt good enough to return to this corner.
