Feeling blue over this shattered glass

Photos by Stacie Joy

You may have noticed the act of vandalism over at Blue Door Video/DVD, home of the finest window displays south of Bergdorf's ...
A manager said that on New Year's Eve, "a drunk person" tossed a rock into the display here at 87 First Ave. between Fifth Street and Sixth Street.

Don't be blue! The window displays will return to Blue Door Video on 1st Avenue

Photos by Stacie Joy

You may have noticed that the cult-classic window displays are empty at Blue Door Video on First Avenue at Fifth Street.

Not to worry, though, reports EVG Blue Door Video correspondent Stacie Joy.

There was a leak upstairs, so Blue Door management had to remove all the odds and ends on display, but they will be replacing the window display with new "lingerie and merchandise and signs" in a few days ... the colored lights will also return...

The window displays at Blue Door Video

Goggla let us know that the scaffolding/sidewalk bridge came down late last week at 87 First Ave. between Fifth Street and Sixth Street... which once again provides unobstructed views of the window displays at Blue Door Video ...
The shop continues to attract tourists, families and fashion enthusiasts to watch the unveiling of the window displays ... which radiate the same classic New York elegance that the Blue Door embodies.
And, as Eden pointed out, the details really make the displays, as DC Comics regular Superman is shown in a thirst trap ... and maybe more...

A new window display for Blue Door Video on Valentine's Day

Eden shares this photo of the new-look front window display at the XXX video and DVD store on First Avenue between Fifth Street and Sixth Street... in recent years, the window display seemed to be a forgotten part of the store, with two cardboard ads for Swiss Navy personal lubricants and a corset-skirt combo that looked more like a lost and found.

"Improbable arrests" continue at Blue Door Video

Are cops entrapping gay men at Blue Door Video on First Avenue in the East Village? Gay City News has the story today.

Blue Door was closed in June under the city nuisance abatement law after vice cops made ten prostitution arrests there in January and February. The criminal complaints in those arrests were filed as part of that lawsuit. In every case, it was police who first mentioned money.

Two men were a couple, one was 36 and the other was 43, who gave a Central Park West hotel as their address and appeared to be out-of-town visitors. The couple, the police alleged, agreed to be paid $20 each to have anal sex with an undercover cop.

Russell Novack, a senior staff attorney with Legal Aid who handles thousands of prostitution cases each year, said he has seen European gay men prosecuted for prostitution in Blue Door.

"I really don't think that European tourists are coming down to the Bowery to be prostitutes," Novack said. "The police send undercovers in there to solicit guys."
