Flamingos Vintage Pound checks out

It appears that the Flamingos Vintage Pound shop has closed on First Avenue between St. Mark's Place and Ninth Street.

A "closing sale" notice recently appeared on the storefront ... and the gate has remained down here for the past two weeks — including over the weekend when people were likely to be out shopping.

This was the last of the local FVP outposts to shutter. The one on Stanton Street and on 11th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue previously shut down. Meanwhile, the two stores in Brooklyn are also out of business. (All the NYC locations had the same phone number listed, which no one answers.)

The company had multiple stores in Europe, as well as in Los Angeles, Houston and Miami. Google lists the U.S. shops as permanently closed.

The two East Village locations arrived in the summer of 2019. As the name implies, the used clothes are sold by the pound at different tiers — $12.99 for lightweight clothing, $9.99 for medium clothing and $6.99 for heavy clothing. My lone trip to the 11th Street space yielded several solid T-shirts for about $14.

Another Flamingos Vintage Pound opens in the East Village, this one on 11th Street

The second East Village outpost of Flamingos Vintage Pound opened on Saturday here on 11th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue. Seems like a good spot for the shop — on a corridor with like-minded businesses such as Buffalo Exchange and Tokyo Joe.

Another Flamingos debuted at 143 First Ave. between St. Mark's Place and Ninth Street two weekends ago. Apparently they are opting for smaller storefronts as opposed to renting larger, more expensive space.

These are the latest locations for FVP, which as the name implies, sells vintage clothing by the pound. FVP opened on Stanton Street last summer. The company, now in its 10th year of business, has multiple stores in Europe, as well as in Los Angeles, Houston, Miami and Brooklyn.

1st of 2 Flamingos Vintage Pound shops has opened in the East Village

The Flamingos Vintage Pound opened this past weekend here at 143 First Ave. between St. Mark's Place and Ninth Street. (Thanks to Steven for the photo!)

In an interesting move, this is the first of two Flamingos outposts to open in the East Village. Another one is coming soon to 11th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue...

Until December 2017, the First Avenue space was home to the bar-restaurant portion of Paquito’s. The quick-serve Mexican restaurant still operates a newly remodeled outpost next door.

Looks like a Flamingos Vintage Pound is coming to 1st Avenue

Renovation work is going on inside the papered-up windows at 143 First Ave. between St. Mark's Place and Ninth Street.

EVG correspondent Steven notes that signs are now up inside the windows for Flamingos Vintage Pound...

This will be the latest location for FVP, which as the name implies, sells vintage clothing by the pound. An outpost opened on Stanton Street last summer. The company, now in its 10th year of business, has multiple stores in Europe, as well as in Los Angeles, Houston and Miami.

Anyway, not really what we expected for the space that has been empty for nearly 18 months. It seemed destined to be an e smoke shop.

Until December 2017, this space was home to the bar-restaurant portion of Paquito’s. The quick-serve Mexican restaurant still operates a newly remodeled outpost next door.

Flamingos will sell clothing by the pound starting Saturday on Stanton Street

Flamingos Vintage Pound, which as the name implies, sells vintage clothing by the pound, is opening an outpost at 57 Stanton St. on Saturday (the hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.).

The location between Eldridge and Forsythe on the LES is the latest to open in NYC ... following recent debuts of two stores in Bushwick.

According to the Flamingos website, there are are also stores in Miami and Houston as well as in Madrid and Barcelona. And per their Instagram account, they have plans on more: "Grand opening of 3 stores in 3 different areas in this wonderful city. This will make us one of the most important vintage clothing companies in NYC. We want to warn you that this is just the beginning, our intention is to open more stores around the US."

No mention anywhere what they charge by the pound.
