Soft openings: Spicy Moon on the Bowery

Spicy Moon is now in soft-open mode (as of yesterday) at 265 Bowery between Stanton and Houston. (Thanks to all the readers who pointed this out!

This is the third (and largest) location for the vegan Szechuan restaurant with outposts in both the East Village (Sixth Street) and West Village. This spot features some sidewalk tables ... interior art by Free Humanity. The outdoor murals are by Praxis.

As previously reported, ownership received approval in February from Community Board 3 for a liquor license for the ambitious new project. The owners plan to use the brewing equipment left behind by the former two tenants — Belse (closed in late 2022) and Paulaner (closed in early 2018).

We'll add the hours of operation as soon as we track them down. They'll eventually add a breakfast service (no alcohol served for the morning hours), per their CB3 presentation.

Spicy Moon preps new Bowery space with some hot pink

The owners of Spicy Moon, the vegan Szechuan restaurant with outposts in both the East Village and West Village, are opening a new space at 265-267 Bowery just south of Houston. (The owners also operate the three locations of Han Dynasty.)

In February, they received approval from Community Board 3 for a liquor license for the ambitious-sounding new project. The owners plan to use the brewing equipment left behind by the former two tenants — Belse (closed in late 2022) and Paulaner (closed in early 2018).

According to their application (PDF here), this Spicy Moon will feature 41 tables with 170 seats and a 16-seat bar. They are also planning on a breakfast service (no alcohol served for the morning hours).

No word yet on an opening date... the interior is shaping up rather quickly, though. The exterior is also changing as workers painted the storefront pink as a base this past week ahead of any Spicy Moon signage.

Spicy Moon has been in soft-open mode since Jan. 17 here at 328 E. Sixth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue in the former Zen 6 space. (The owners of Zen 6, a ramen spot, are also behind Spicy Moon.)

Per the restaurant's Instagram: "Spicy Moon is 100% Vegan and 100% devoted to serving our guests the best #plantbased flavors in NYC."

You can check out their menu via Seamless here.
