Everyone's favorite 14th Street triplex with a garage door for a wall is back on the market

Once, again, your favorite floor-through condominium triplex with a fully retractable second floor façade/wall that flips open like a garage door overlooking 14th Street returns to the market here between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.

The home (in the building "Brownstone East Village"), which has been on and off and on the market for years, is again for sale.

Bringing the news is 6sqft:

Among numerous other media mentions, the triplex has been on the cover of New York magazine and was selected as Elle Decor’s Pick of the World’s Most Beautiful Homes.

Adding up to about 2,000 square feet of eclectic architect-designed custom finishes, the home offers ordinary luxuries like an elevator, 12-foot ceilings, a 500-square-foot private garden with a cabana, exposed brick walls, laundry, and a home office and rec room. Joining the retractable walls on the eclectic side is an aquarium that runs the width of the apartment.

Here's one photo...

Price: $4.2 million.

The place looks pretty nice, though everyone always seems to want to sell it.

Another chance to own the East 14th Street duplex that likes to show off its insides

[File photo]

Hey, our favorite floor-through condominium triplex with a fully retractable second floor façade/wall that flips open like a garage door overlooking East 14th Street returns to the market! (Or maybe it never left the market!)

This listing for The Brownstone East Village at 224 E. 14th St. arrived on Streeteasy this week.

Here's a snippet from the Douglas Elliman listing:

The first floor is sheathed in perforated metal that provides great privacy, while filtering natural light into the generous entry foyer/home office area. An exposed brick hallway leads to an all-white eat-in Kitchen. Here, a glass garage door retracts, opening the entire wall to an enormous private, south-facing Garden and outdoor Cabana, ideal for intimate gatherings or large-scale entertaining. The Kitchen is equipped with a Viking dishwasher, downdraft-vented cooktop and oven, 36" Subzero refrigerator, and is finished with custom lacquered cabinetry and seamless enamel coated countertops.

This appears to be the unit that Bill Peterson, the architect behind the building, owns. Back in 2012 the asking price was a reported $2.499 million. This time around the asking price is $2.1 million. Public records show that he paid $1.8 for the home in 2008.

City temporarily closes The Brownstone on East 12th Street for illegal occupancy

On Monday, the city served a full vacate order on The Brownstone, the self-described "Jewish social club" at 224 E. 12th St. between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.

According to public documents, the city issued the order "for altered building occupied without C of O [certificate of occupancy]."

According to The Brownstone website:

New York City does not fall short in the way of bars, cocktail parties or other social events, however, it’s finding relatable people to identify with that can be difficult to come by. Enter The Brownstone, the new Jewish social club that sophisticated New Yorkers have been longing for.

Gracing Manhattan’s East Village, The Brownstone is a one-stop shop for college students and Young Professionals to meet their needs as Jewish inhabitants of NYC. If it’s time to shake up your weekly work routine because you find yourself constantly surrounded by the same crowd, come meet new faces at one of our social events. If you are searching for that nice Jewish partner to bring home to mom and dad, join us at one of our dating events. If you are seeking a business opportunity, attend our networking events that feature prominent leaders from various fields and industries. If interested in further cultivating your Jewish identity, enroll in our classes that range from Hebrew Ulpan to Dating in Today’s World.

Sounds as if they were fitting into the East Village just fine. In a complaint dated Aug. 8:

APARTMENT BUILDING CONVERTED TO DORMITORY WITH ROOFTOP BEING USED AS PARTY SPACE, SERVING ALCOHOL & PLAYING AMPLIFIED MUSIC.

There's no mention of the closure on The Brownstone's website, Facebook page or Twitter account.
