Resobox, a Japanese cultural center, opening in the former Edge space on 3rd Street

Back on Aug. 2, an EVG reader spotted workers putting up some decorations on the marquee at 95 E. Third St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue... the former home of the Edge.

For now, the signage looks like this...

The space will be home to the third NYC location of Resobox, a gallery, workshop (with a variety of classes) and café that celebrates Japanese culture. The first location opened in Long Island City in 2012. (The other location is in Chelsea.) You can read more about Resobox and its founders here.

For now, the Third Street location, until it's fully operational, is offering flower-arranging classes on Saturdays...

What's happening with the former Edge space?

The Edge, the neighborhood bar on Third Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue, closed last September after 29 years in business.

The space had been on the rental market... of late, though, the for lease sign hasn't been visible.

An EVG tipster says there has been some activity in the space, and points to clues in the front window of a possible new tenant...

However, there aren't any work permits on file for the storefront that might provide any details, such as if workers are venting the space for cooking.

This sign is now on the front door... Reso Box...

95 E. 3rd St., former home of the Edge, is for rent

The for rent signs are up now here between First Avenue and Second Avenue... can't recall seeing this broker around here before — Green Pond Real Estate (based in Clifton, N.J.) ...

We didn't spot any listing yet for the space, which is 1,300 square feet on the ground floor with another 650 square feet in the basement.

The neighborhood bar the Edge closed here in late September after 29 years in business.

Clearing out the Edge

Workers quickly took down the Edge signage and cleared out the former bar space on Third Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue.

As this photo via an EVG reader shows, bar stools and other items were up for grabs on the curb.

After 29 years, The Edge closed for good after service on Saturday. "We'll just say [the landlord, Thermald Realty Associates] found an opportunity to sue us for a bunch of money that we can't pay," a bar rep told us last month.

We haven't heard just yet if there is anyone lined up for the storefront... or if the space will be put on the rental market.

Last call for the Edge, and the return of an old friend

As we first reported last month, The Edge, the 29-year-old bar at 95 E. Third St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue, is closing for good ... the bar did receive a one-month reprieve ... and those extra few weeks have come to an end: Last call for The Edge is tomorrow (Saturday) night.

"We'll just say [the landlord, Thermald Realty Associates] found an opportunity to sue us for a bunch of money that we can't pay," a bar rep told us last month.

Meanwhile, an EVG reader noted the return of a familiar vehicle on the block this week...

This appears to be one of an RVs owned by now-former EV resident Ron Britt... whose RV empire once consisted of Old Flat Top and the Free Willie Nelson.

The above RV was first spotted here back in the fall.

One more month for The Edge

Earlier this month, we reported that The Edge, the 29-year-old bar at 95 E. Third St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue, was closing for good at the end of August.

"We'll just say [the landlord, Thermald Realty Associates] found an opportunity to sue us for a bunch of money that we can't pay," a bar rep told us at the time.

However, after a little legal wrangling yesterday, the bar was given one more month: The official closing date is now Saturday, Sept. 24.

After 29 years, The Edge is closing on 3rd Street

The Edge celebrated its 29th year in business Wednesday night by telling patrons that the bar was closing for good at the end of the month.

The owners confirmed that the bar, at 95 E. Third St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue, is closing.

We heard rumors earlier in the week about some landlord issues.

"We'll just say [the landlord] found an opportunity to sue us for a bunch of money that we can't pay," a bar rep told us via text. "It's really disappointing. The bar has been around 29 years as of [Wednesday]. We just celebrated with a Back to the 80s party. A lot of sad people that the bar will no longer be around. It's been a 'living room' for so many people for so many years."

There are no plans at the moment to find a new location.

Public records show that the landlord is Thermald Realty Associates.
