A new 2nd Avenue home for the NYPD's light tower

As noted on Saturday, the NYPD removed its portable lights from the northwest corner of Seventh Street at Second Avenue... and as several EVG readers have pointed out, the lights have moved down the Avenue... to the northeast corner of Third Street ...

A reader passed along these photos from yesterday... showing that the lights are now fixed on the southwest corner of Third Street, a spot where people have been known to congregate...

Reader report: Blinded by the Yonekichi light

[Monday night]

Yonekichi opened Monday at 236 E. Ninth St. And with the exception of some Daily News readers, people seem to like their specialty, rice burgers, at this sliver of a take-out spot between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.

So far, at least one neighbor is unhappy about their arrival. To the EVG inbox.

Starting Monday night their new storefront lit up our apartment like a UFO on an abduction hunt. They have 16 exterior lights hanging above their store in addition to their interior lights. They are so bright. To put it in perspective, there's a film crew shooting down the block and their lights don't even come close.

Some blackout curtains may be in order for the evening business hours.

Still, there's one bright side, so to speak.

"Thank God they kill the lights at 10."

Blinded by the 24-hour ATM light

Some residents who live on Avenue B just south of East Seventh Street are unhappy with Anwar Grocery for installing "an incredibly bright flashing 24-hour ATM sign better suited to Times Square."

Said one neighbor: "Residents ... now have their apartments lit in alternating shades of red and green throughout the night."

Requests by neighbors to turn the sign off at night have been rebuffed by the Anwar staff, according to EV Grieve reader Robert.

Tompkins Square Park lights covered

The lights in TSP usually look like...

And now, some of them are covered...for unknown reasons...? (Oh, right — as a reader points out, for the movies. Like tonight's showing of "Claire's Knee." For some reason, I hadn't noticed this before...Is it a good idea to leave the lights covered on nights that movies aren't playing?)

And at night...
