About the VIP portable toilet in Tompkins Square Park

Photos by Steven

Several readers have asked about the luxury portable trailer — VIP to Go! — that has been near the Seventh Street entrance between Avenue A and Avenue B this past week.

Perhaps the city found some extra budget $$$ and is treating us to some upscale facilities while the field house is closed for renovation

Haha! No!

The facilities remain here after the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival on Sunday. These were brought in for the use of the musicians backstage.

But, they remain... and are unlocked... as an intrepid EVG correspondent discovered...
By the way, this model is the two-station Rolls Royce restroom trailer. Per the description: "Impresses everyone who sees it with its clean, simple white exterior that opens to a beautiful, warm wood interior and all the luxuries of home."

Anyway, enjoy it while you can.

Soon, you'll be able to go No. 1 or No. 2 at First and First — for 25 cents

The Villager has the poop on an item on this month's CB3 agenda. As Lesley Sussman reports, the Department of Transportation plans to install an Automatic Public Toilet (A.P.T.) at the southeast corner of First Avenue and First Street on the small concrete island that separates Houston and First Streets.

Per The Villager:

The first A.P.T. was installed three years ago in Madison Square Park and is one of 20 D.O.T. plans for the city. There are currently three A.P.T.’s in operation.

The toilet is self-cleaning and would cost 25 cents to use. Operating hours would be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. — not much solace for clubgoers after a night of beer swigging.

The toilets at the Cooper Square Hotel are really powerful

I recently stopped by the Cooper Square Hotel to use the restroom. And check the place out: Had never been inside. Not much to see in this video inside one of the co-ed bathrooms...But the audio... (with a little Interpol on the hotel soundsystem...)

From the wire:

NY public toilets feature TVs, tuxedoed attendants

NEW YORK (AP) -- What a relief! The free public restrooms operated by the Charmin toilet paper company in Times Square during the holidays are being rolled out for another year.

It's the third straight year for the 20 deluxe stalls.

The plush potties feature flat-screen televisions, attendants dressed in tuxedos and plenty of Charmin.

The loos are so luxurious that Charmin promises Times Square tourists will feel like kings sitting on their thrones before making their royal flushes.

The toilets are being inaugurated Monday with a ceremonial first flush by pop singer and Broadway star Joey Fatone.

They'll be open every day through the end of the year except Christmas Day. For the first time they'll be open on New Year's Eve for the crowd watching the 2009 ball drop.
