THESE are the most popular places to eat in the 10003 zip?

The Post has this piece about the most popular eateries via 2011 credit-car transactions. Per the paper: "In an analysis of restaurant spending from 10 ZIP codes, diners popped up in six neighborhoods’ top-10 lists, said Bundle.com, miner of financial data."

According to this research, these are the favorite dining destinations in 10003:

• St. Mark's Market
• Mumbles
• The Smith

Huh? St. Mark's Market is fine, but is it really a dining destination? And Mumbles? Is it that popular?

EV Eatery Etc.: Dutch gin on Second Avenue; iPad at Butter Lane

Here at the former Bounce Deuce space on Second Avenue and Sixth Street...someone sunk a fortune into renovating the space... Per Diner's Journal in the Times:

With interest in the ancient Dutch style of gin known as genever growing in cocktail circles, it was only a matter of time before a genever bar opened in New York. Vandaag, near the northeast corner of Second Avenue and Sixth Street in the East Village, will be the first when it has its soft opening on Tuesday.

As I noted in the spring, a pizza joint was taking over the former Cafe Brama space... Eater has the story of Plum here.

Cafe Hanover in the old Mondo Kim's space is still closed...

Life Cafe reopened this past Thursday after a temporary closure for renovations....

A reader passed along a photo of the iPad in Butter Lane where you can look at cupcakes and stuff. Do with this information as you please.

EV Grieve Eatery Etc.: The 13th Step's sign; the Stage's holiday

Noted, outside Cheap Shots (or, Spanky and Darla's) on First Avenue...

Noted, outside the Pig on Seventh Street on July 4...

There's an opening-night party at the 13th Step tonight... I was kindly given an invite to stop by too...

And don't be alarmed to see the Stage closed for awhile...

..they're just taking a summer break...

East Village eatery odds-and-ends

Think Coffee on Fourth Avenue namechecks Jack Tripper's favorite bar ...

Signage for the new tapas space is up at the old home of Xunta on First Avenue...

More beer specials at the Neptune...

Rico, the hookah bar on Avenue C between Ninth Street and 10th Street, is really closed now...

Caffe Buon Gusto is still looking for that sidewalk application even though they don't have a liquor license... I didn't notice this sign posted until after the hearing... one nearby resident believes the sign didn't go up until the day of the hearing ...

East Village eatery odds-and-ends: DBGB getting happy and cheap; Planet Rose expanding

I don't recall ever seeing this sign outside DBGB before... they want us to get happy with them now?

As discussed earlier, Planet Rose is expanding on Avenue A near 14th Street... and they have a new awning on the storefront to the left...

Last summer here!

This photo by an EV Grieve reader shows the continued progress at Motek, a coming-soon French creperie and cafe on St. Mark's Place near Avenue A...

Oh, and this on Fourth Avenue near 13th Street... I like the tag on the rolldown gate...

A note for smokers at Diablo Royale Este on Avenue A...

And the Brindle Room on East 10th Street serves Genesee...which I haven't had in about 25 years...around the time I thought they had stopped making it...

East Village eatery odds-and-ends: Westville East's new sign; Bar None's Coyote Ugly tribute

EV Grieve reader Shawn Chittle, who lives above Westville East, passed along a new sign that appeared outside the eatery on Avenue A at 11th Street....

As he noted, "Kudos to Westville for putting up this sign Wednesday after listening to our building's tenants who spoke at Community Board 3. This will go a long way (I hope)." (Previously.)

EV Grieve reader Creature sent along this shot of Steak Shoppe, the new eatery at the old punchline Permanent Brunch and Burgers on First Avenue. The rebranded space opened up last night. Fork in the Road has the story.

Earlier today, I mentioned Bar None in a post that really had nothing to do with Bar None... which prompted a reader to ask me if I had ever seen the bar's website. Uh, no. I have not.

My! I can almost hear "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."

And for no reason, the sidewalk outside DBGB earlier this week....

East Village eatery odds-n-ends: French Creperie coming to St. Mark's; Rico getting evicted; people standing in line at Pulino's

Absinthe wine bar closed on First Avenue near Seventh Street back in November... the place became Lautrec Bistro.... now that place has closed... a new cafe is hoping to transfer the license here tonight during the CB3/SLA meeting... the new owners want to operate the garden... which has caused problems in the past...

As BoweryBoogie noted Friday, Pulino's finally outed its sidewalk cafe... and there were lines (and bare feet!)...

Officials served Rico, the hookah joint on Avenue C between Ninth Street and 10th Street, with an eviction notice... (They closed once and reopened about two months later back in 2008.)

Signs for a French Creperie have gone up on St. Mark's Place next to the Hop Devil Grill... replacing the boitique that closed here...

Workers removed the plywood at the Pita Pan Sports Grill on Second Avenue and Sixth Street...

And, I have no idea when this happened, but the McDonald's on 14th Street near First Avenue has a walk-up window now...

East Village eatery odd-n-ends: Roasted pig on Avenue C; snoop guard at Diablo Royale; orderly chairs at Village Pourhouse

Saturday saw Zum Schneider's annual May Day celebrating ...

...where people lined up on Avenue C and Seventh Street...

...to dine on swine...

The apparently shuttered Musical Box on Avenue B is giving away its couches...

Trash bags were up on the windows yesterday morning at the Cooper 35... Some students were inside filming, I was told by someone standing there... they were open as usual later...

Noted at Village Pourhouse on Third Avenue and 11th Street....

The coming soon Tallgrass Burger on First Avenue near 13th Street has posted its menu on the storefront...

The coming soon Diable Royale on Avenue A has put up snoop guards to ward off various bloggers and tipsters...

I have no idea what was happening here. However, as I learned in my Hyperlocal Blog Class, you always take photos of anything happening at Motorino on 12th Street...

I haven't been to the Holiday in months... since then they have added draft beer...

The owners of Ballarò Caffè Prosciutteria on Second Avenue prepped for their newly approved sidewalk cafe last week by repairing the big crack in the sidewalk out front ...

And for no reason, two photos of the Spring Lounge from last week... where Kate Hudson was holed up filming a scene for a movie that we will never see...
