MetroPCS has closed on East 14th Street

That's all for this MetroPCS outpost on East 14th Street at First Avenue... the landlord has taken possession of the premises, as these photos via EVG regular dwg show...

This location seemed to be a good spot for a stick up... as it was robbed twice that we can recall in early 2012...

As for MetroPCS, you won't have to travel far to find another one. According to the The Center for an Urban Future, MetroPCS is the third largest chain store in NYC with 323 outposts in 2015, trailing only Dunkin' Donuts (568) and Subway (444).

Poppy's Gourmet Corner on Avenue A at East 12th Street will be closing up after the business day tomorrow, EVG reader Shawn Chittle reports...Owner Mike Attal told Shawn that the rent is too high now...

Jared Kushner's Westminster Management is the landlord. This has become an increasingly valuable chunk of retail with Douglas Steiner's mixed-use building with ground-floor retail and 82 market-rate condos going up on the surrounding property.

Galleria J. Antonio is closing on Avenue A

We were sorry to see the store closing sign up here the other day at 47 Avenue A between East Third Street and East Fourth Street… Galleria J. Antonio sells arts and crafts and custom jewelry and watches…

Here's some history of the store via The Villager (back in 2005 when some locals were ticked about the painting in the front window showing a woman's bare breast):

The galleria is a colorful crafts store with jewelry, pottery, handbags and even doggy costumes peppering the walls and display cases. An artists cooperative, the galleria was located on Christopher St. from 1979 to 1989. After a 15-year hiatus when the store’s founding artist and namesake, Jose Antonio, died of AIDS in 1989, the shop reopened in 2000 at its present location on Avenue A and E. Fourth St.

The for lease sign mentions no food… the Ave A Optical space a storefront away at No. 43 remains on the market as well…
