A water main break on 7th Street at Avenue C

City crews continue work on Seventh Street just west of Avenue C... there was a report of a "water condition" here at 1:13 a.m. ... (A reader told us it was a water main break...) Seventh Street is closed to through traffic between Avenue B and C.

Another reader reported that the city has shut down the water to the block. (This after low water pressure last night.)

Hopefully, this is something that can be repaired quickly...

1st Avenue back to being 1st Avenue-y

All lanes of traffic are back open today on First Avenue at Seventh Street ... this after five days of repairs for the sinkhole/swallow hole/collapse due to a broken pipe... which backed up traffic all the way south to ____ during that time...

... there appeared to be a sinkhole setback last evening, as this photo via EVG regular Raquel Shapira showed...

Anyway, all good now.

The 10th Street (accelerated) water main replacement project work is continuing this week between Avenue A and First Avenue... as these photos from EVG (Accelerated) Water Main Replacement Project correspondent Daniel show...

According to the Weekly Construction Bulletin (PDF here), this week marks the "final restoration of the roadway."

Reader report: Water main break on 7th Street

An EVG reader shared this from late this afternoon... when workers from Express Plumbing Sewer & Water Main Corp. were working outside 111 E. Seventh St. between Avenue A and First Avenue "going crazy. Cowboy style."

Per reader Andrew Bushong:

They dug two giant holes in the sidewalk and street. Around 5 p.m. they broke a main. City was called and now they're "supervising" the same plumbers while eating cupcakes. I'm a bit pissed as they've turned off water for the block on the eve of a blizzard.

And this has caused seceral businessed to close early, including Desnuda and...

Water issues on 10th Street

The 10th Street water main replacement and sewer rehab continues this week between Avenue A and First Avenue... EVG Water Main Replacement and Sewer Rehab correspondent Daniel shared these photos from this afternoon...

The work has required some water shutdowns along the block...

This has caused Russian & Turkish Baths to adjust their schedule...

Per their website:

Due to water mains being turned off on 10th Street our schedule will be changing daily.

On Wednesday, January 11th, Woman's day has been suspended and we will be opened at 2pm for regular CO-ED hours. Information about Thursday and Friday will be announced the night before but our hours will most likely be 2pm-10pm.

During Regular business hours you may call for updates at 212-505-0665

As Daniel noted, the work on this block is pretty intense as workers are moving the water main from the south to north side of the street.

Quite a set of pipes on 10th Street

Just checking in on some of the water main replacement and sewer rehab going on around parts of the neighborhood... such as here on 10th Street between Avenue A and Avenue B... EVG reader Daniel shared these photos from today...

A worker at the scene told Daniel that these pipes were from 1910 (not sure about that — but that's what he said) ...

Celebrate Halloween with construction and water service interruptions!

[EVG reader photo]

Just a heads up if you haven't seen these flyers... advising "that on or about the week of Monday, October 31, 2016, the New York City Department of Design & Construction will begin replacement of water mains at various locations."

As you can see, the "actual work boundaries" include 10th Street between First Avenue and Avenue B, Avenue A between 11th Street and 12th Street and First Avenue between 10th Street and 12th Street.

And there will be some water service interruptions in some of these areas, the flyers warn. (The city is supposed to allow 72 hours notice of any water shut off)... no word on just how long this will take. Feel free to leave your guesses in the comments.

Replacing and extending some water mains on the Bowery

Meant to note last week the start of the water main upgrade on the Bowery between East Fourth Street and Great Jones …

Tried to find a completion date for this via the DDC website… came up with this… a June 2019 timeline.

That's probably for the entire Bowery project (though it is conceivable that it could take the city three-plus years just for this block) … the DDC map shows the extension/replacement work going down to Canal.
