(Forgot to add this with the original post.) Part of the Sex and the City tours includes a stop at this Perry Street townhouse in the West Village. Yes, this is the stoop that the Carrie Bradshaw character sits on in the show. (Actually, five different stoops were used; this one most frequently, I'm told by someone who really likes and knows the show.) According to Forbes: The show, which made a fifth character out of New York City, attracts fans to the Big Apple in droves, and locals cash in. Location Tours offers a three-hour bus tour that stops at shops and bars that have appeared on the show. The tour costs $40 a head, and its owners say it attracts as many as 1,000 people a week. Destination on Location Travel offers "set-jetting" weekends in New York, where groups of up to twelve women are shuttled around town and given the fantasy that they're one of the four Sex characters. The price: a hefty $15,000 per person.

Where's that Brownstone? Is that where Carrie Bradshaw supposed lived or is that where Sarah Jessica Parker lives? Sorry, but not a fan of the show thus have no clue of the what where and when of that show.

Oops. Sorry, hbbuhp...forgot to include what exactly people are look at here...this is the Perry Street townhouse that serves as Carrie's apartment in the show. At least just the stoop. This stop is part of the Sex and the City bus tour. Yes, it's beyond me why anyone would want to see this.

The "Real Kramer" bus tour is much more interesting.
I guess the SATC tour is "to boldly go where no woman has gone before".

ReplyDeleteOn my recent vacation, I decided that since I had been a fan of the show since I was 17, that I would go take a pic on the stoop like so many of my friends have before.
BIG MISTAKE. I noticed a brassplate and a chain guarding the steps and a woman on them talking to a gentlemen. She had papers in her hand and she was a grumpy bitch.
I went across the street and held up my camera to get a shot and just as I put my arms down, she proceeds to SCREAM at me.
YOU ARE INVADING MY PRIVACY!
GET A LIFE!
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!?!
So I said, "Well, the little brass sign doesn't say anything about NO PHOTOGRAPHY so I'm taking a--"
"EXCUSE ME? I LIVE HERE! You are not allowed to take photos of me or my house. GO AWAY!" she snarled.
I asked if she realized where she lived and how she had no control of me taking a photo from the street and she refused to speak to me. I apologized for invading her privacy and she made a quip about the genuineness of my apology and then I left.
It was totally worth it and now I have a fun story about the troll that lives in the house where Carrie's stoop was located! hahaha
And my picture was FABULOUS.
it's not so much that they are losers ...it's the realization that maybe some of them connect more to a phony set prop than to real life.

uhm, I don't know about New York law, but in California, you have to have permission to photograph someone's home, or they CAN pursue that whole legal action.
ReplyDeletebut hey, way to teach some bitch a lesson about thinking things through next time someone uses their connections to put parts of her life on TV. That'll teach her to send those camera crews BACK to the studio lot..
Yo, Anonymous at 1:31, I'm pretty sure you've seriously misunderstood something. I'm not aware of any law that prevents people from photographing a public view of private residences.
