This building had been condemned 10 years ago by the city. Rudy Giuliani himself came down to the location to sign the condemnation documents. The buildings condemnation is a topic of controversy to this day. Every tenant in the building lost everything. One of the elderly tenants that had lived there committed suicide at an old age home. Another elderly woman went crazy. She would show up at the lot after the building was razed and say prayers believing it would come back. Tenants Marc Zero and Rockets Red Glare were also victims of the condemnation. Marc lost his entire film archive. Marc's film archive of the LES and NYC rivaled Clayton Patterson's. A terrible shame.
Thanks for the comments. I lived across the street when all this happened. It was shocking to see the residents treated so shabbily by the city. They were treated like criminals. One resident had simply gone out for some groceries only to return to find that he wasn't able to get back in. He lost everything...like all the other residents.
