The Blarney Stone on Fulton Street near Nassau in the Financial District is a fine joint for some beers and affordable quality food. And they open at 8 a.m.
Was disappointed, though, to see them recently get new, sterile signage...fits right in with the rest of the neighborhood now. Charmless.
Still haven't been back to the Blarney Stone on Eighth Avenue near the Garden since they ruined that with a remodeling a few years ago...

So its a "Pub" now, eh? Liked it the way it was (and those signs probably dated back to the days I drank there!)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, there's still the Hanover Square Killarney Rose
Hi AMG...thanks for the comment. I was so pissed about the sign, I forgot to mention the grill/pub switcheroo.
ReplyDeleteLove the Killarney Rose sign!
i like the blarney rock around the corner.
ReplyDeleteI live in BPC and work on Wall Street. I would frequently drop in here after work, then the city shut it down. It had a health code violation in the window.
ReplyDeleteWhen did the place re-open? What did the city object to them doing? This was my favorite winter place for a Jameson and some corned beef and cabbage on the way home.
Don't hate me because I went to NYU, but I used ot hang out here most of the week when I lived down in the Water st. dorm. Great, inexpensive food, beer, and real new york life rubbing shoulder.
ReplyDeleteI am glad Blarney Stone is still open. Although I no longer live in NYC, I did from 2001-2003. On September 11, 2001 I dove into a doorway as the South Tower collapse came rushing at me. After what seemed like an eternity, I pulled myself up off of the ground and crawled out onto Fulton Street. I reached out and grabbed at the first thing I could feel...a window pane. I pulled myself up and looked in the window and after feeble attempts to get the attention of those inside, I tried the door.
ReplyDeleteI found myself in the Blarney Stone.
I was the first in from the street and for the next 2 hours or so, I and so many others comforted each other. Despite being a great place for drink and food, the Blarney Stone will always hold a special place in my heart as it was my safety - my refuge - on the worst day of my life.
