The shroud of WaMu: The Bowery loses a bank
The Washington Mutual closed up shop on Bowery and Bond ... WaMuers need to head over to the next closest WaMu location at St. Mark's and Second Avenue. Seems like the perfect spot for something such as another bank branch!

That ranks as one of the most sterile buildings on the Bowery. I'm not too sure what could work in that space except for a bank!
ReplyDeleteI guess WaMu/Chase can't afford to remove the signage... there's something about the covered signage that captures just what is happening now....
ReplyDeleteactually the WAMU on st. marks and second is probably not long for this earth. With the chase merger and a chase just 2 blocks up in the old second ave deli location.......
ReplyDeleteI'm not a WaMu/Chase customer...But I do like that branch on Second and St. Mark's. Has a nice old-school vibe. In any event, HG -- I think you're right.
ReplyDeleteIt would certainly be a first for a bank to close and in its place have a, gasp!, interesting store or something actually useful open.
