Black market Clash: "This is Radio Clash" mural painted over on Third Street

Been meaning to do a post on graffiti legend Ezo's Clash-inspired mural on Third Street between Avenue B and Avenue C. It's on the wall outside the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.

Because of its more remote location in the East Village, this work didn't receive the same love as Joe Strummer on Seventh Street and Avenue A. I liked it just the same, of course.






Anyway, I'm sad to say, it's gone. Painted over. Black.



Well, Ezo's Clash mural had been tagged. And it was starting to chip away in spots... Couldn't it have been touched up like the Strummer mural earlier this year? In any event, we're hopeful something equally inspired goes up in its place.

    I had no idea that mural was Ezo's. In any case, I'm sorry to see it go...

    Have a little respect Larry Slade. Joe Strummer was more than just a pop culture hero. The artist showed his love and respect to Joe by painting this mural...and its a shame it was painted over. Anybody that knows anything about Joe would feel the same. You sir....are an idiot

      You took the words right out of my mouth, lol. That's what the beauty of NYC is all about. It is such an artistically influenced place and as such; a perfect location for a tribute mural, of which there is only one other paying tribute to The Clash ( Joe Strummer). Your statement was beyond ignorant. Just because nobody will care, or pay tribute when YOU die, doesn't mean you have to hate on the tributes to poeple of such great importance and influence, as Joe Srummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, and Topper Headon (my favorite lineup that The Clash ever had)!
