I recently noticed a "closed for vacation until March 18" sign on what was Mohammed Falafel Star on Seventh Street near Avenue B... Next time that I looked, the place was closed... with work permits dated March 23 in the window...
...and this sign...
Does anyone know what happened to Mohammed? (Pictured here in a photo by Michael R.) I lost track of what was happening here...
this place was great. and so is mohammed. nice guy.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why he's gone. He was never open when I wanted to eat, though. I don't think they were ever open for lunch time. They seemed to pare down their hours to nights on weekends until they were finally closed for good. I really liked the lamb kebab sandwich a lot.
ReplyDeleteI Spoke with Mohammed before the Star closed. He moved back to Syria
ReplyDeletespoke to mohammed as well. he owns a few falafel stores back in syria and decided to take time to spend with his children. mohammed had actually sold the place on 7th st to a syrian friend a while back (i believe it may have been a relative? he had re-done the interior and changed the signage outside) and the friend/relative was the one who had been running the place for the last few months. apparently this friend/relative decided to invest in a different opportunity and sold again. he says the new management will keep a similar menu
ReplyDeletemaybe habib will take it over?
ReplyDeletei'll be praying for that....i miss habib's.
he actually just opened up a new falafel star on union and 4th ave in park slope.
