The Chocolate Library ready for checkout

The Chocolate Library is now open on St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue... And EV Grieve reader Michael Fivis filed a report... "Lively grand opening. Dude working was really kind. Tasting samples and music." But, um, are there books or music...? "Just chocolate. I was expecting a sly name for another new bar! But it's actually just — a library of chocolate. Tons of square IKEA shelves filled with product."

  1. This has got to be the stupidest use of retail space in the neighborhood. Sounds like it belongs on the UES. Give me a break.

  6. new york city has some of the best and most expensive chocolate shops. why would you go to a store and buy a pre-packaged assortment that you don't know how long has been on the shelf when you can go to any $90 a lb. store and pick out exactly what you want? - which you should be able to do for $90 a lb. (and they say chocolate is going up in price? egad!)
the chocolate library, maybe for a quick fix of a $5 chocolate bar that's better than those at the corner deli, but with all the chocolate makers in the east village why not go to the source. shop local and all that.
are there that many tourists on st. marks 1-a?

  7. I was just here. The chocolate is fresh and fabulous. I have seen cocoa trees and tasted the seeds from the pods in their fresh state--wonderful. This store does not disappoint. Nuttin wrong with anything chocolate as far as I am concerned.Thumbs UP!! You can get a great chocolate bar for $1.50.

  8. i live in the neighborhood and i'm actually quite glad to see a business like this one crop up here. the EV was lacking in the chocolate dep't since Chocolate Bar + Max Brenner closed down. i'm also not sure i understand the comparisons to oxygen and water bars. chocolate is a vital element i need for my basic life processes. oxygen and water...not so much.
