I can't believe so many big businesses are making their employees work on these major holidays
ReplyDeleteI am sorry, this is just so pathetic. Remind me never to shop at Rite Aid, or for that matter any store that makes their employees work like this. Scrooge lives.
ReplyDeleteRite Aide's Holiday stuff is vast and downright weird and funny :) But CVS is a big yawn. Our Rite Aid is 24 hours (LES) and looks like an afterhours club 4am on Sat. Drunks wander and stare at chips and accuse the magazines of "looking at them". I saw the lady restocking the romance novels one afternoon drop a few books and a guy helped her and she said "story of my life!" I have a lot of respect for those folks I can only imagine what they go through night after night but it's nice to have a 24hr place. Their "Wellness" card is no joke either, great discounts! No I do not work for RA just feel for and respect my local store! :)

ReplyDeleteUmmm we are talking about New York City, right? Big, ethnically diverse place in the northeast United States? I'm guessing there are quite a few non-Christians who live there and probably even some who work at Rite Aid. And I don't see a problem with keeping a few drugstores / pharmacies open in case someone needs a last-minute prescription refill, even on Christmas. (And btw, in the jobs I've had, I've worked many holidays.)
ReplyDeleteI am not of any religious affiliation and when younger would always take these shifts at the retailer and nursing home I worked in while in school. I would feel bad to see Granz working there these hours but younger people, this is the time to sock away the cash. Some people don't care much about "holidays" too it's just another day.
ReplyDeleteAgree. A lot of people want to (or need to) earn extra money on holidays when you can earn time and a half. Let's not assume everyone in NYC celebrates Christmas. We are a diverse group of people - let's celebrate THAT!

I used to work in a hospital and covered all the holidays for several years. Although I'm not particularly religious, missing out on a day when the majority celebrated with friends and family still hurt. The money was never worth it.
ReplyDeleteI find it most interesting that the pharmacy hours for Christmas Eve are printed, but they are blocked out for Christmas Day. Under that, "We're serious about health" (but more serious about last-minute shoppers!).
