Urban Roots pulls out on Avenue A
Several readers have pointed out that Urban Roots, the natural foods store on Avenue A between Third Street and Fourth Street, has abruptly closed...
I hate to see any non-nightlife-related stores close (unless they're real assholes) ... Still, as one reader pointed out, the stores are under control of the Ageloff Towers co-op board... meaning you won't see a bar in here...
Previously on EV Grieve:
Of the 147 storefronts on Avenue A, 70 of them are bars, restaurants or vacant
Whatever happened to the Two Boots Restaurant? Plus: NYCHA puts up two prime storefronts on Avenue A for rent
Sons & Daughters closing on Avenue A; new tenant for A and Third Street?

ReplyDeleteSad to see them go. They were really nice there.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sad to see them go. That place was way over priced, never stocked with merchandise, and was run by an underpaid staff that couldn't give a shit. I always ended up taking my business over to Commodities on 1st Ave (rather than Whole Foods).
ReplyDeleteMe too, Commodities is great- I will not mourn the loss of nabe places if they didn't deserve business. This place never had anything stocked never had food items I needed, and what they did have was beyond use date and if the staff was underpaid then they certainly acted like it. Now if the 'Mod closed then I REALLY would mourn, I take a bus back to the EV just to go there from the LES. Great place, friendly and well-stocked :)
ReplyDeleteNooooo! Now where am I gonna buy my Catskill Mountain Coffee?! {sobbing}
ReplyDeleteIf anyone has a lead on where to buy these beans, please feel free to drop me a line: jdubois396@gmail.com.
Thanks!
urban roots was an excellent place for healing herbs and ointments. the guy who worked there for years was better than any doctor i've seen in nyc. his advice got me over nasty flus and infected abrasions. i'm back in nyc and mourning the loss of urban roots. :(
