Report: Graffiti artist Angel 'LA II' Ortiz is in Rikers


According to ArtNet, graffiti artist Angel "LA II" Ortiz has been a guest at Rikers for three weeks. His trial is set for April 27. Per ArtNet: "He was arrested for graffiti three times in a short period, which kicks the charges up to a felony."

Also:

"He was arrested for graffiting over the Kenny Scharf mural at Houston and Bowery Streets, and also for painting a rather large graffiti mural on the Urban Outfitters store on Second Avenue in the East Village. Ironically, LA II is an official Urban Outfitters Artist."

    Angel's getting too old to be a graffiti artist--he's not fast enough to evade the police anymore. You've got to be young enough to move fast, otherwise you're going to get caught all the time. I agree with the earlier poster who implored him to stick with canvas now. Give it up, dude!

    I BELIEVE HAVING THREE MISDEMENORS IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME GIVES YOU A MANDATORY 30 DAY SENTENCE WHICH LA II IS SERVING...NOT A FELONY..

    Is he the "Laroc" guy whose bland scribble I see all over the neighborhood? It's as ugly, ubiquitous, and unnecessary as another Chase Bank marquee. Keep him locked up.

    no sympathy for this vandal.

    enough already - tagging new buildings or where the landlord clearly spent money to clean it and your TOY tag is the first is just wrong.

    plenty more counts if the police just go around the neighborhood - also give him the bill and make him pay for the cleaning.
