Teriyaki Boy on East 10th Street closes

EV Grieve correspondent Blue Glass notes that the Teriyaki Boy on East 10th Street between Second Avenue and First Avenue has closed... workers were clearing out the Japanese fast-food restaurant this afternoon ...

Their phone number has been disconnected... and the website is no longer active.

  4. Good. That place was a ptomaine palace: every time I got something there to eat, tempted by how good it smelled, I ended up with severe gastric disturbances that had me on the potty for 48 hours. Probably the same way the food got contaminated in the first place.

  5. they were not good neighbors.
you could smell the old oil and the deliverymen refused to ride in the street.
the food would have been better and cleaner if they had charged, perhaps, fifth cents more.
i wonder what will take its place?

  7. anon, 7:27. Why would someone eat 'every time' at a place where he/she got food poisoning once? Dont blame them for being kinda stupid.

  8. Not so much stupid, anonymous 9:02, as willing to keep giving another chance. And also very fond of teriyaki. Alas, my weakness and my kind and forgiving nature were doomed to be punished...have you never eaten at a place that upset your little tummy and gone back again just because? Of course you have. Oh, and Mensa, btw. So NOT stupid, thanks ever so.

  9. If you eat someplace even once and you're on the shitter for "48 hours" and you even think about going back you have the common sense of a sack of doorknobs.

I'll miss the place. I've probably eaten my weight in Tokyo Fried Chicken.

  11. I used to eat at Teriyaki Boy all the time in the UES as a youngin' before I realized there was a Japanese/Sushi spot on every damn corner! I won't miss this place at all...

  12. I would never touch their "Sushi or Sashimi", but loved their Chicken Cutlet Curry or Egg Bowl. Always ate there, not take-out. Never had any adverse effects on my stomach.

  13. I found a fly in a salad from there once. Brought it back, explaining that I hadn't paid extra for the meat. They didn't have a sense of humor; didn't offer a refund, either. They were never good, I thought, but a cheap fill-you-up kind of place, and there are better of those around, ones that aren't always getting low marks from the Health Department.

  14. @Kurt, you are one angry, self-righteous asshole. On this thread you suggest that whoever eats again at a place that made them sick is a fool; in another, your interchange with blueglass about Prune leaves anyone reading it in no doubt that you think she's an idiot.

Added to this is yet another recent thread, in which you had no hesitation in suggesting I was a racist because of a comment I left about Arun Bhatia and the destruction of 35 Cooper Square MANY moons ago. (I replied to you and Mary, by the way - you may want to check it out if you have not already done so.)

Your exact quote to me was "It’s too bad that someone who lives in the "liberal" East Village seems to have such a distaste for "foreigners". Well, *I* say it's too bad that someone who comments regularly on this blog has such a distaste for his fellow commenters just because they don't think in lockstep with him. What's worse, Kurt - slamming someone for whom my comment, which he will never even be aware of, would mean 2% of nothing, or repeatedly unloading on your fellow readers, who are left knowing with absolute certainty the contempt you hold them in? (Not that they should care, since your intelligence level is obviously substandard, but still.)

  15. @Lisa, you can call me all the names you want. I can tell from your posts you are a xenophobe and I guess "traveling all over SE Asia" is the new "Some of my best freinds are black!"

  16. I just found out it closed, after trudging a long way in the heat carrying many heavy purchases! I ate there many, many times (without incident), and also ate at the 9th St. location that closed (and became part of the pet store which I found utterly useless). Farewell, Teriyaki Boy! -- TXC
