June 22

Wow, and one day after the ICTTS became the ICTTSS. Goggla checks in rather tentatively this evening. "I'm assuming someone else already submitted this as there was an am New York conveniently left nearby."

No! So she made this discovery on Second Avenue at Seventh Street. "Real trees — I touched them," she said. "I have a closer shot of the dated paper as well."

Gruber MacDougal, spokesperson for the International Coalition of Tree Tossing in the Spring and Summer (ICTTSS) had no immediate reaction.

[Updated]

Goggla sent along some other photos of the tree ...

  1. foul! that's no xmas tree. it's two trees together. perhaps some decorative greenery from a failed restaurant's outdoor cafe?

  2. Hmm...Gruber MacDougal extends the length of this contest due to a Goggla photo yesterday and today Goggla comes up with this most probable contest winning shot...this all leads me to wonder...could Goggla actually be the elusive Gruber MacDougal? Or are they partners in some sort of ICTTSS embezzlement scheme? Cue "Twilight Zone" theme as I go hide under my futon!

  3. I went out last night looking for these "trees". But by the time I got to 2nd Ave & 7th St, they were gone.

Anyway, from the pictures they're definitely real. But I suspect they were never real cut Christmas trees (e.g., those are not dried out needles). They look like potted shrubbery that might have flanked the entrance to a store.

  4. Much as I would like Goggla to win, these trees do look a bit on the shrubby side. Seems like that suspiciously green tree of Mr. Moss's is still the front runner.

  5. Jeremiah's June 11 entry is more than the front runner -- it's got to be the only unqualified winner of this contest. Any "win" by a tree found in the summer will have to be, at best, marked with an asterisk.

ALSO, although Goggla's find is probably a potted shrub, I'd hate to be the one to snuff out whatever tree-finding confidence that she or anyone else has remaining. So, Goggla, NICE TRY!!!

  6. @Jeremiah - I don't know about you, but I put up 12 Christmas trees each year so I can dump one on the sidewalk each month in the coming year. Also, for the apostles.

@Marty - Yes! I am currently lounging on a tropical beach, rolling sushi in $100 bills.

@Tom - I found these around 8 or 8:30, just after the big rain.

@OMFS - I was so excited to find the trees, I felt them, but didn't think to pull them out of the bags. I was already rooting around in the trash to get the newspaper and people were giving me the EYE.
