In early September, we noted that workers were in Tompkins Square Park doing whatever it is you do to install WiFi equipment... And according to Patrick Hedlund at DNAinfo, the free wireless service went live yesterday.
What you need to know, per DNA:
Users can connect to the "attwifi" network by selecting the network and then clicking a box agreeing to the company’s terms and conditions. No usernames or passwords are needed, and there are no limits on use.
Anyway, just in time for Occupy Tompkins Square Park Saturday...
Couldn't they find some one from NYC to do this? Did they have to bring in someone from NJ? And what is it with the NYU buses having New Jersey plates?
ReplyDeleteisn't it great that nyu has its own transportation for their students at the same time that mta has cut the subways and buses.
ReplyDeleteand nyu has the nerve to say they want to integrate into the community at the same time the are removing their students from every-day life in the community.
and local colleges are not being so neighborly these days.
nyu tried to evict the associated supermarket. cooper union is trying to get rid of st. marks bookstore.
perhaps they should change their major from education to real estate
Yesterday i wsa walking down east 6th st towards avenue c behind 3 sisters, an older one maybe 14 holding the hands of two younger ones, one very little, like 4 or 5. thinking how sweet they looked. all of a sudden - a WALL of like a dozen or more C*NTS from NYU, ALL with their stupid purple matching NYU tshirts, came charging/jogging down the sidewalk. they ACTUALLY clipped the little girl as they careened past like a wall of f*cking water buffalo. i started screaming my heads off not to run down little kids and they were like, in total shock, entirely unaware of themsleves or their obnoxious physical behavior. they were all white and the sisters were puerto rican. i was absolutely disgusted. i am this close to writing in a complaint to the school. i said "if you want to go jogging over , watch where you're f*cking going!" and they were like totally confused and just kept right on going. can you even begin to imagine the miindset of the monsters who don't understand what is wrong with crashing intop a f*cking five year old? these people will destrory not only the fabric of the east village but humanity itself, and should be aggressively rebuked and held accountable at all times......
ReplyDelete@glamma - I wonder if they know there's a free track out at East River park, not to mention the promenade and service road, which are both open to joggers.
ReplyDeleteGlamma thanks for that report.
ReplyDeleteThat behavior will not stop unless people like you (and all of us) keep confronting them directly.
Keep up the defense of the LES! Much appreciated!
yes that's definitely where they were coming from, i see a lot of people like this on e6th street coming from that overpass.
ReplyDeleteI often feel tempted to try boarding an NYU bus and saying I feel they owe it to the community to provide something back, since I have heard of absolutely nothing they do to give back. They don't even have programs or internships for public high school kids that aren't very expensive summer camps. All I see is they have a blog on the firewalled NY Times and didn't raise the rent as much as they wanted to on the Met Foods.
