One thing I love about The Public Theater is that it is a low-key theater that produces good quality theater. People come to watch, enjoy, and be moved by the plays/musicals. Have some sort of cathartic moment from the daily hustle, bustle, and struggle of NYC life.
ReplyDeleteWith the upscale restaurant coming, the theater just comes secondary. It'll just be another sceney place for the trend-spotters.
Much like the renovated Yankee and Shea (yes, still calling it Shea) stadiums, they have become places where most people would go for the food and drink where there just happened to be a baseball game playing, or in Public Theater's case, a theater production happens to be playing.
Will the restaurant attract new theater goers? Hopefully, but doubt it. It's like Shakespeare in the Park nowadays, where they serve overpriced food and drinks and people would go to be seen and not see the plays.
Great photo by Shawn and the new Joey Ramone CD is really good!
