Large branch falls on East 14th Street

EVG reader Joe reports that, just before 6 a.m., a large branch of the flowering pear tree outside the Duane Reade on East 14th Street near First Avenue split and fell...

No word on the shape of the rest of the tree...

Soon to be former Duane Reade as they prepare to move right next door to the CVS around the corner on First Ave. Ugh.

    A shame about the tree.

  2. I did not know a pear tree dwelled on E. 14th Street. Hope the rest of the tree is okay.

  3. I'm no tree expert, but walking passed it this morning, it appears the remaining half is leaning on the scaffolding and will probably come down if it was moved.

  4. Callery Pear trees are common in NY - they don't really have pears. One fell and crushed my car a few years ago. I did some research back then and here is what I found http://mingum.blogspot.com/2008/10/musings-on-callery-pear-tree.html
