Paving and peace on East 11th Street

The DOT is currently prepping parts of East 10th Street tonight for repaving... signs said they'd be doing all this tonight and tomorrow... from Avenue D westward...

... workers seem to be randomly tossing down barrels to block off various streets and Avenues and bike lanes ...

...a little later...

And last Thursday and Friday, crews worked on East 11th Street... and it kinda seemed festive... (maybe not for the workers on a hot and humid night)...

A few shots from the weekend...

... and on another section of East 11th Street...

Kenny from 11th St. reported that some neighbors decided to help out — because you never know when those extra chopsticks will come in handy to decorate the street ...

...and perhaps some repaving-related damage to this tree?

Or is this our very own Virgin Mary Tree?

Our building on 11th was literally shaking like we were in the middle of a small earthquake while these guys and their machines repaved in front of it. That was at around 2 AM. Fun.

After waiting many years for the sinkholes and potholes to be repaired on E. 11th st., it was almost thrilling to see the street repaved...that is, until 2 days later, when Coned began tearing the street up again. Why is it that they can destroy a lovely, newly paved street, and not have to leave it in the condition that they found it? The city should charge them for their destruction!

I like the idea of decorating the pavement with baubles. When's the next paving party?
