'Stop the noise!'

[Bobby Williams]

As the sign posted on East Ninth Street between Avenue B and Avenue C shows ... there is ample noise coming from ... somewhere.

If the person/people who left the put up the sign would like to expound on this in the comments ... Bar noise? Renovation noise? Rooftop BBQ woo?

  1. I think the noise is coming from all of those "illegally" chained bikes on 5th Street! These kooks should team up!

  2. From our bedroom which faces east (we live on 2nd ave between 7/8th streets) for the last few months we have been hearing an intermittent beeping noise, sounds like an elctronic alarm, and only beeps for a brief second. Could this be noise the flyer refers to? It hasn't stopped yet!

  3. I live at 641 and they say it's a screeching noise, they posted the signs up everywhere again this morning, I don't hear anything but now I'm nervous I might start hearing what I haven't been listening for

  4. The local contractors seem to take great pleasure in removing an old smoke alarm, putting in an old battery, and then burying it under piles of demolition garbage. I've had to dig through piles more than once to stop the harassment.

  5. The noise is a high pitched sound that sometimes sounds like a whine and at present more like a shriek that varies in pitch. It's affecting people in the upper stories, especially at the rear of buildings on the eastern half of 9th and 10th Streets between B and C. It continues 24/7 for days at a time. It first began last Thanksgiving and returns intermittently. The latest episode has lasted more than a week and those of us affected are getting pretty desperate, as the sign indicates. Calls to 311 have got us nowhere so we've now appealed to CB3 to use their influence with the DEP. As the sign indicates, we can't trace where the noise is coming from but it's most likely a ventilation system.

  6. “Calls to 311 have got us nowhere”. Mike Bloomberg’s memory hole. 311 is a NYC government placebo call center.

  7. seconding the vent idea likely a rusty and small vent on the roof of one of the buildings being pushed by wind had an issue similar to this on St Marks place a long time ago and that's what it turned out to be took forever to find the offending vent luckily the landlord quickly fixed it. we couldn't figure out how the people living in the building didn't hear it for months every night

hope for these folks it's that easy a fix
