Bus stop on Avenue A

Dave on 7th noted this tonight ... a car pulled over on Avenue A at East Sixth Street...


Per Dave:

"The bus just keeps honking his horn. He can't or won't go around the car illegally parked in the stop in front of Benny's. Going on for about 10 minutes so far."

    I hate when cars park in bus lanes, but honking is ineffectual and worse for the neighbors above. Sometimes, even when i am on the bus, I just want the driver to slam into the car and move on. Yes, I know this is not an appropriate response. So be it.

    Too bad the MTA doesn't put machine guns under the headlights of their buses, a la James Bond. Take out the car's rear window and maybe even the driver, then just push the damn thing out of the way and drive on.

    I would bet he was honking because he's just too damn tired of the police not doing anything about cars parked in the bus stop, in general.

    And if he was really there for some time, I'd think that a patrol car might have noticed. But I am guessing that no ticket was issued to the driver of the car.

    Why aren't the horn laws enforced in NYC? The city needs money. Everyone hates the horns. Start writing tickets. It's a win-win.

    Case in point: Intersection of 6th street & Cooper (a.k.a. Bowery a.k.a. 3rd Ave). The rerouted traffic creates a nightmare where people pull up to the light without realizing that they are in a turn lane. So everyone behind blows their horn continuously until the front driver surrenders and turns or the light changes. This intersection could generate hundreds, if not thousands, and hour in tickets.

    Horns are supposed to be used in emergencies only. Of course, many people apparently believe their "life is one long emergency" so everyone else had better get the hell out of the way.

    For the record, eventually the bus driver gave up honking and drove around the car to dispatch his customers, which included a handicapped rider; which was the primary reason he wanted to be able to pull to the curb. A few minute later a patrol car arrived to issue a ticket.

    @Dave: Thanks for the update. I hope that the ticket was issued for the car parked in the bus stop. Please tell us that it wasn't to the bus driver for honking. Please.

    @bus stop. Yes, the ticket went to the car, not the bus.
