Lawsuits abound over NYU 2031

In case you missed this news elsewhere... a quick recap via Gothamist:

A big supergroup of groups and individuals — NYU Faculty Against the Sexton Plan, Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, Historic Districts Council, Washington Square Village Tenants’ Association, East Village Community Coalition, Friends of Petrosino Square, LaGuardia Corner Gardens, Inc., Lower Manhattan Neighbors Organization, SoHo Alliance, Bowery Alliance of Neighbors, NoHo Neighborhood Association, and 11 individuals — have filed an Article 78 lawsuit against several City and State officers and agencies ... claiming that the approval of the NYU 2031 plan was unlawful.

As Curbed put it, "It remains to be seen whether or not the lawsuit will be able to halt or delay construction, which is slated to begin in 2014."

You can read more about the lawsuit at Crain's ... as well as the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation.

  1. Yes! This is how you get results and action in New York. Sue the bastards! It's the only thing anyone seems to respond to these days.

Hopefully some fraud/corruption could be discovered. There is no way this sailed through without some kind of (unlawful?) political promises being made.

  3. Thanks to the 3 sisters for selling out the EV by voting for the expansion of NYU. The assault by NYU has been underway for over a decade. Just last Friday night I was greeted by a one of their fine students staggering out of her apartment scarfing a slice of Papa John's pizza screaming into her I-Phone how she was "crazy excited because she was going clubbin".

Rosie Mendez said many people would be happy if she voted “no” and that it would be the “easy thing to do.” But, deferring to her “sister” Margaret Chin, she said she would vote “yes.” How is supporting the community that elected you and re-elected you, "the easy-thing to do"? Isn't that the right thing to do? Thanks for nothing Rosie!

When will someone stand-up to her highness, Christine Quinn, the nasty, spiteful, Bloomberg lovin, political opportunist. And forget Chin, she voted to support SPURA, she voted to support NYU, and she voted to support the demolition of historic buildings on the Bowery.

    Sue the bastards!!
