Gruppo signage arrives at new Avenue B digs

As you may know, Gruppo is relocating to a new home down Avenue B... to 98 Avenue B between East Seventh Street and East Sixth Street (at the former Layaly space) ... Dave on 7th notes the letters are up ...

No definite timeline for an opening date... you can see there's a little work left to do on the inside...

  1. I can't wait for it to open. I love their pizza. Any word on what is going in the space they formerly occupied?

  2. I honestly cannot believe that in the East Village with all of the amazing pizza in so many places that people actually like the pizza from Gruppo. There's nothing wrong with the place (nice staff etc), but the pizza is flat out mediocre. They use frozen crusts for chrissakes! Also it's not cheap. Motorino, Luzzo, Gnocco, Nicoletta, No.28, Brindle Room on the high end are exceptionally good and Stromboli, 11B, Nino's, Muzzarella, on the NYC Street pizza side are all better than Gruppo.

  3. Best Pizza in NYC, period (30+ years of tasting )-- crusts are crispy thin and the toppings are the freshest and bestest - my favorite is the El Greco. And the Tricolor salad with spiced pears and gorgonzola dressing is amazing. Can't believe they will be just around the corner -- HOORAY!

  4. Wish they could keep both locations.

  5. Some of the worst pizza I've ever eaten (coming from a native, not a Nebraskan). While it's hard to find good pizza in Manhattan, it's not hard to find pizza better than this abomination.
