Super weird alien noises and sirenish sounds coming from Stuytown right now, can't sleep! #stuytown #eastvillage

@evgrieve hear anything about a punishingly loud buzzing noise at 4:15 last night near 14th and B that lasted an hour? Destroyed my sleep.

One resident did speak with Con Ed around 4:30 a.m. They were releasing steam pressure.
@lilyalta @evgrieve #stuytown was a release of steam pressure from our steam station. Sorry for inconvenience

And they are sorry for the "inconvenience," as you can see.
From a follow-up with Con Ed: "It was not planned. Was due to equipment issue."
Previously on EV Grieve:
East Village residents ask: WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT NOISE LAST NIGHT?
I would be really curious to know why Con Ed feels they have to dump their steam pressure overload in the middle of the night, when it is guaranteed to disturb the maximum number of people, rather than during the day.
ReplyDelete@gojira
ReplyDeletemy guess would be they didn't have a great deal of choice. either vent or pop.
in my experience, they usually do it in the afternoon on weekdays when the minimum number of people are at home and almost nobody is sleeping.
I guarantee the people who freaked out haven't lived here long. I've been here so long I'm used to it.
ReplyDeleteWhatever it is I would like to know if it is dangerous to breathe in. If it wasn't planned why was it on a Sunday the last time as well?
ReplyDeleteoh you bast@rds. you got me again! tossed and turned until 7:15.. so cruel and on daylight savings to boot....
ReplyDeleteahhhhhhhhhhhhh
I've grown accustomed to the sound from the Plant living here. But I will say that it has been much louder these past two incidents.
ReplyDeleteThose living on Roosevelt Island and near Queensbridge have to put up with such noises on a regular basis from Big Allis.
ReplyDeleteWhen they start talking about the billions of unregulated fine particulates they release into the air south of 14th street, then I'll listen. Until then my psychic energy is spent blocking them out.

Not alot of steam being used in the wee hours of the morning, hence the reason why venting is needed at those hours... used to live on the C loop for over a decade.
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm out of that shit hole, not worth the $1500 [rent stab. 1 bedroom] It was basically NYU FratHoeCampus
