Reminders tonight: Meeting to discuss incoming East Village bars
As noted back on Monday, there's an East Village community meeting tonight ... of particular interest to residents of the southern stretch of Avenue B and the side streets. (Read that post here.)
The meeting, sponsored by the East 4th Street A & B Block Association, will be held from 6:30-7:30 in the community room at 535 E. Fifth St.
Of particular interest is 14 Avenue B, where folks behind Urge hope to open a new bar.

I live in that building, and one night last month when I came home some man had a table set up in my lobby trying to hassle residents into signing something that claimed we were in favor of a new bar opening there. I politely declined, saying that I really didn't feel like having another bar open right underneath my fire escape, and he proceeded to tell me off that "it wouldn't be loud" and "come on it's in favor of the neighborhood why can't I just sign it". I then made a rude remark questioning how he even got into my building to hassle us to begin with and walked away, but now I'm less in favor of this bar than ever.
ReplyDeleteshould have called the cops. i doubt he lived in the building
ReplyDelete@Anon 2:32pm - Please attend the meeting and tell that story. Applicants are not supposed to harrass residnets for support, however it is a common tactic that is seen in our neighborhood all the time. Instead of just politely asking you to sign in support they bum rush you, misrepresent what their intensions are, because none of them say "oh we will be really noisy, our patrons will pee on your door, vomit outside your building and be screaming at cabbies at 4 am". Which is what they should really be saying when they ask you to sign their petition. Pleasee - seriously the only way to stop places like this is for people to show-up and say something, especially if you live in the buidling.
