The Smith, the popular bistro on Third Avenue near East 10th Street, is on this month's CB3-SLA committee docket. According to documents, the owners are proposing to add a bar to the restaurant's basement. (The PDF of the application is here.)
In addition to a small bar, The Smith plans to open up the basement area for dining as well.
A media rep for the restaurant told us: "Currently, The Smith East Village is hoping to expand this summer and revamp the downstairs area, but all is still pending final approval."
Restaurant staffers are currently collecting signatures in support of the expansion.

I ate here once and enjoyed the food. But, man, was this place loud. It wasn't music. It was the voices of the other diners. Everyone at my table had to scream to be heard. The sound also pours out as you walk by. It must be the acoustics of the place. I don't know what they could do about it. Maybe they don't need to do anything about it because the place is always full of diners who don't seem bothered by it.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who likes to eat there - the breakfast is OK, there's nothing good for vegetarians on their regular menu. It is absurdly loud and full of NYU students with $2000 handbags and their parents/boyfriends/hangers-on.
ReplyDeleteI say let them dig down as far as they like, if more of the annoying woo-types drank there rather than other places it would be better for everyone
