    I have never understood EV Grieve's fascination with The Ramones... Boring! More early Madonna and More Nina Hagen and more Mudd Club and Danceteria, and More Crisco Disco and the Pyramid and less about CBGB and The Ramones... Thank you!

    Or Save The Robots, The Continental, The Bar... Honestly, CBGB and The Ramones? I moved here as a 19 year old kid in 1981 and CBGB and the Ramones were not even remotely on anyone's radar.

    Ah, yes, Johnny Ramone, the Republican Ramone, who was, in the end, not too tough to die. Guessing this is an effort by his widow (who left poor saintly bleeding-hearted Joey for Johnny) to cash in on the band's name?

    9:08 and 9:15, I think Grieve's profiling of CBGB's/Ramones' "then and now"-ness is for illustration purposes rather than to claim that the band and club were the top shit 'back in the day'.

    It's more like Grieve is using the club and band as examples and evidence of how the city has incorporated such old-school EV totems.

    The area has been made into a consumerist, characterless, vampiric, arbitrary playpen for the entitled, vanilla set that now lives and cavorts here in the East Village/Lower East Side and it's that demolishing of the old vibe that sickens most of us who follow this blog.

    I never liked The Ramones either and only set foot in CBGB twice in all the years I have lived here but I feel the twinge of nostalgia for what they represented and I feel the disgust over the sanitization of what used to be a raw, real environment.
